Alex Borg in Brussels for the EPP Summit

Leader of the Opposition and of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg today joined other European leaders from the political family of the European People’s Party for the EPP Summit in Brussels, held just a few hours before the start of the European Council meeting.

This was the first EPP Summit attended by Alex Borg following the general election. His presence in Brussels shows that, from the very first days of this new legislature, the Partit Nazzjonalista is continuing to work so that Malta and Gozo have a strong and respected voice at the heart of European politics.

During the Summit, the main priorities before the European Council were discussed, including European security and defence, competitiveness, EU enlargement and Europe’s role in an increasingly unstable world.

Alex Borg also held meetings with leaders who were present for this Summit, including EPP President Manfred Weber and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This was also the first EPP Summit for the new Prime Minister of Hungary, Péter Magyar.

Before the Summit began, the PN Leader also held talks with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, at her office in the European Parliament. They discussed how they will continue working to further strengthen the PN, including at European level. Roberta Metsola also addressed the EPP Summit later on.

During these meetings, the Partit Nazzjonalista continued to convey the priorities of Malta and Gozo within the European political family of which it forms part. The PN Leader stressed the need for Malta to remain active in European discussions on competitiveness, security, investment, job creation, and the protection of Maltese and Gozitan families and businesses.

Alex Borg’s presence at this Summit places the Partit Nazzjonalista around the same table as Heads of State and Government, including several Presidents, Prime Ministers and Opposition Leaders from across the EU whose parties form part of Europe’s largest political group. This is in addition to other European leaders and senior representatives of the European institutions.

The Partit Nazzjonalista has entered this new political chapter with a clear mandate to be a strong, responsible and credible Opposition, both in Malta and at European level.

The Partit Nazzjonalista believes that Malta must be present where decisions are taken, with a clear, serious and determined voice in favour of the national interest.
