Gozo needs A Fresh Start today: a Nationalist Government will invest seriously in infrastructure, connectivity and security

PN Leader Alex Borg in Munxar: A new Nationalist Government will give Gozo the importance it deserves with a larger Mġarr Harbour, a new 400-bed hospital, the Marsalforn breakwater and justice closer to the people

Gozo cannot wait for more elections to pass. It needs A Fresh Start today. A Nationalist Government will provide that fresh start through serious investment in infrastructure that has been left abandoned, in connectivity that has been forgotten over the past 13 years, and in security that has declined in Gozo.

During a political activity with PN candidates on the 13th District this evening in Munxar, Gozo, Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said that Gozo cannot continue waiting for a general election to be around the corner for the Government to remember it. He said that Gozitans have heard too many promises about projects that are crucial for them, including connectivity, healthcare and many other areas.

He mentioned the promise of a hospital for Gozitans, the Xlendi Masterplan, the Gozo Court, the promise of quality jobs for Gozitans in Gozo, and how, to this day, young Gozitans still have to go to Malta if they want better jobs. He also mentioned the serious problem of drug trafficking in Gozo, which was allowed to grow by a Government that dismantled a police section that worked specifically on this issue. He also referred to the lack of investment in education by a Labour Government, and said that a Nationalist Government will once again invest strongly in education.

A Nationalist Government will ensure the necessary investment so that Gozo and Gozitans are given the priority they deserve. This is the contract it is making with people from now.

Alex Borg said that a new Nationalist Government will give Gozo the importance it deserves through serious investment, and reiterated that the PN’s plan for Gozo includes a larger and more functional Mġarr Harbour, investment in Ċirkewwa, a small alternative harbour in Gozo, two new vessels, a sea freight service to the Grand Harbour and later to the Freeport, as well as the long-awaited Marsalforn breakwater.

The PN Leader said that from the first day the election was announced, he did not want to promise the impossible or make empty pledges. He wanted to go before people with a plan — with a strong vision and serious proposals that improve people’s lives. And this is what he is doing. Through the PN’s energy vision, from 1 January next year, all families, people living alone, farmers, livestock breeders, voluntary organisations and others will start paying an average of 30% less on their electricity bills. This can be achieved through a serious €60 million investment plan in solar panels.

He spoke about the Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub proposal, which will strengthen our country’s economy and which has so unsettled the Labour Party that it began attacking it in every way possible. He also spoke about the investment that will be made in Marsa for PORT – the Cultural District, because the PN believes in arts and culture and in how this niche can also be an investment in our economy.

He referred to the proposals to reduce personal tax, to support small and medium-sized companies and SMEs, and to remove succession tax once and for all. He also spoke about the assistance the PN will give to SMEs and voluntary organisations in relation to VAT, as well as the PN’s proposals to redirect our country’s population policy and safeguard our identity.

Alex Borg said he believes in positive politics and appealed to all those who want to give our country A Fresh Start to convince those who are still uncertain.

“Negative politics belongs to the past. Let us continue pushing forward our vision. Together, we can make a difference. This is your moment to give A Fresh Start to our Malta and our Gozo.”

The activity was also addressed by Partit Nazzjonalista candidates on the 13th District Norma Camilleri, Beppe Galea, Luke Said and Frank Anthony Tabone.

Norma Camilleri said that a Nationalist Government will be a Government ready to serve everyone, not a Government for the inner circle. She said that others have claimed that 13 years ago Gozo was a desert. The desert, Norma Camilleri said, is where the Labour Party left the promises it made to Gozitans over the past years.

She spoke about how the role of women has changed over the years, and about the need for more women in decision-making positions so that they too can make a difference in women’s lives. She said that the PN’s policy of placing the person at the centre of decisions is what led her to contest the coming election, and that together with Alex Borg and the team of candidates, she will work so that a Nationalist Government once again places Gozo and Gozitans at the top of the national agenda.

Beppe Galea said he believes politics is a tool to do good, and because he loves Gozo, he chose to take this step forward. He said that a Nationalist Government understands the urgent need for better connectivity for both passengers and freight, as well as the importance of extending Mġarr Harbour so it can meet the island’s needs. Gozo’s roads are in a disastrous state, and a Nationalist Government will be committed to improving 150km of roads. He said that in recent years, the Labour Government, instead of improving the quality of life of Gozitans, set them back. He concluded that a Nationalist Government wants to restore the quality of life that Gozitans deserve. But for this to happen, everyone’s support is needed so that together, on 30 May, we can once again give Gozo A Fresh Start.

Luke Said said that he is the youngest candidate in the upcoming general election, but has been working for the good of Gozo and Gozitans for years. He said that his work for Gozo has taken him into several sectors and helped him understand how, in Gozo, every small detail matters. He also said that because he chose to work for this island and be active in politics, he also suffered the consequences, but still always chose not to remain silent. He mentioned the decline politics has suffered in recent years, which has discouraged many young people who have come to see politics as something that only serves the few. He said that the PN believes in a different kind of politics — politics focused on people and on giving opportunities to everyone. He said that serious politics protects what we have and builds a stronger country. This is the politics that a Nationalist Government wants to lead after 30 May.

Frank Anthony Tabone said that, with only a few days left in the electoral campaign, there are still many people who remain undecided about their vote. He appealed for more people to be part of this journey and help the PN convince those Gozitans who are still undecided that only a new Nationalist Government can give Gozo A Fresh Start. He recalled how the Labour Government completely forgot Gozo at every level — leaving it with a rusting vessel for which millions were paid, leaving it without a hospital, and without many of the projects it promised to deliver. He said that the proposals being put forward by the Partit Nazzjonalista are proposals that directly affect people, including those related to security. He concluded by saying that Gozo needs to breathe A Fresh Start again and that a Nationalist Government led by a Gozitan Prime Minister will certainly not allow Gozo to continue being left behind.

Damien Spiteri, Mayor of Munxar, also addressed the activity and said that Alex Borg has brought great enthusiasm, while people’s support means everything for the Partit Nazzjonalista. He said that now that three weeks have passed, the positive campaign of the Partit Nazzjonalista is clearly visible, and that the formula behind this positivity is Alex Borg. He said that when Alex Borg became Leader, he said he wanted to change the way politics is done — from one of mudslinging to one that looks forward and is open to everyone. He spoke about the Partit Nazzjonalista’s proposals to improve Gozo without increasing pressure on this island. A Nationalist Government will improve people’s lives, including through lower bills, the removal of inheritance tax, measures to help first-time buyers, and much more. He said that this positive campaign does not mean there are no attacks. But in the face of these attacks, Alex Borg continues to insist that the work must go on. He said that the road is uphill and appealed to everyone to do their part so that on 30 May we will have a Nationalist Government led by Alex Borg.
