We recognise what the people want, but we must also acknowledge the gains we have made. People are once again seeing strong hope in the Partit Nazzjonalista, and what has happened in recent days gives me courage. Following the electoral result, hundreds of people expressed their wish to join the PN as volunteers, while around 1,000 suggestions were received on how the Partit Nazzjonalista can continue improving its work.
Interviewed by NET NEWS Head of News Robert Cremona on NET FM, Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said this morning that, in the first few days following the election, more than 800 people offered their time to help the PN, while many others are sending in their ideas and suggestions on how the Party can continue to grow stronger.
Alex Borg said that this continues to show how people are seeing in the Partit Nazzjonalista a new hope for the change that needs to take place.

During the interview, the Partit Nazzjonalista Leader said that the positive campaign run by the PN in recent weeks must remain the hallmark guiding both him as Leader, as well as the Party’s MPs and representatives. He said that contact with people must remain continuous and consistent throughout the legislature. This, Alex Borg said, is politics centred on people.
While the PN lost the election, the reaction following the result was exceptional and shows how much people are yearning for an increasingly stronger Partit Nazzjonalista. We therefore have an obligation to work with even more energy.
Alex Borg said that he is ready to continue serving as Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista if he has the confidence of the paid-up members, but there is a process that must take place according to the statute and that process must be allowed to take its course.
On his decision to retain the 13th District, the PN Leader said that he wanted to show Gozitans that he stands with them not only in words but also through his actions. He maintained that he has peace of mind that the statute allows this.
Asked about the early election, Alex Borg said that there is no doubt that Robert Abela chose to go to the polls a year early because he knew that the PN was making major advances. He said that the electoral result confirmed that the real reason had nothing to do with the international situation, but was linked to the work of the Partit Nazzjonalista. This work will continue because today, more than ever, the PN is a government in waiting.
Alex Borg criticised the way in which the Labour Party in government abandoned people in the most basic matters and in their rights, but then, on the eve of the election, remembered those it had forgotten and started using the power of incumbency to do what it should have done years ago.
Asked about the Cabinet, Alex Borg congratulated all those who were chosen to serve and wished them well in their work for the good of the country. However, in reference to Chris Fearne, he said that he cannot but be concerned by the fact that a person who is still criminally charged has been given such an important role. He said that while he hopes Fearne is found innocent, the Partit Nazzjonalista will remain committed to clean politics, transparency and good governance.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista concluded by saying that the Party’s positive campaign will translate into more contact with people over the next five years.
“The energy I have seen in people, not only before and during the campaign, but even more so now that the election is over, continues to fill me with courage and hope that the Partit Nazzjonalista will succeed in bringing to fruition this project we have started, for the good of the Maltese and Gozitan people.”
