PN Leader continues meetings with a visit to M. Demajo Group, discussing investment and the challenges facing businesses
The Partit Nazzjonalista believes that a strong economy requires long-term planning, certainty for investors and opportunities for workers to strengthen their skills.
This morning, the Leader of the Opposition and the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg visited various divisions of M. Demajo Group as part of the PN’s ongoing meetings with all sectors of society to hear about their experiences, challenges and priorities.
He said that the Partit Nazzjonalista has consistently insisted that economic growth must translate into quality jobs, opportunities for advancement and better living standards. Figures alone do not necessarily mean improvements for either businesses or workers.
Alex Borg said that the PN believes in continuous dialogue as an essential part of its preparations to offer better government. He said that the experiences of those who run businesses and those who work in them help shape concrete proposals that address the country’s needs.
Accompanied by PN Deputy Leader and MP Alex Perici Calascione and PN MPs Michael Piccinino, Graham Bencini and Andrew Agius, the PN Leader visited Multi Packaging Ltd at the Bulebel Industrial Estate in Żejtun, M. Demajo Wines & Spirits in Ħaż-Żebbuġ and Demajo Technology Centre in Birkirkara. The meeting continued at the Group’s head office in Valletta.
The visit allowed the Partit Nazzjonalista delegation to observe first-hand the Group’s diverse activities, ranging from manufacturing and trade to technology. They noted how the Group had successfully diversified its investment and kept pace with changing times.
For their part, the directors of M. Demajo Group outlined several challenges they face. These included the impact that the Government’s measures concerning foreign workers would have on their business and on prices, import and export costs, and the lack of clear direction regarding the future of work in Malta.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg said that visits and meetings of this kind help the PN maintain direct contact with businesses. This is important to ensure that policy reflects the realities faced by businesses and workers.
The PN will continue meeting all sectors of society to develop policies that address today’s challenges and prepare Malta and Gozo for the future.
