Party Leader

Dr. Alex Borg was born on 10 July 1995 in Rabat (Victoria), Gozo. He is a lawyer by profession and was first elected to the Maltese Parliament in 2022 with the highest number of votes among the Party’s candidates, after the then-Leader. He served for three years as Shadow Minister for Gozo and sat on both the Gozo and Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Committees.

Dr. Borg was raised in Nadur and studied at the Bishop’s Conservatory, the Gozo College, and at Sir M.A. Refalo Sixth Form. In 2019, he graduated in Law and began practising as a lawyer. That same year, he was elected to the Executive of the Moviment Żgħażagħ Partit Nazzjonalista (MŻPN – the Party’s Youth Wing), and shortly after, to the Executive Committee of the Party.

He strongly believes in a contact-based style of politics and that politicians must remain close to the people at all times.

Politically, he describes himself as supporting a strong, competitive economy while also believing in robust social services such as free healthcare and education.

In June 2025, following the resignation announcement of the Party’s then-Leader Dr. Bernard Grech, Dr. Borg expressed his interest in the role and contested the election for Party Leader.

He was elected Leader of the Party on 6 September 2025 and took the oath as Leader of the Opposition four days later, on 10 September.

Malta is ready

Next Sunday, Malta will wake up having made one of the most important choices in its recent history. The question is not only who governs. The question is what kind of country we now choose to become. I believe Malta is ready for a new chapter. More ambitious, more balanced and more human.

I believe Malta can breathe again

This country needs to start breathing again. Nifs Ġdid is not just a slogan. It represents a fresh start, rooted in a simple belief that government exists to make ordinary life better—measurably, honestly and visibly better

Why Malta Now Needs An Innovation Economy

Malta has reached a point where the question is no longer whether we should keep growing. The question is how we grow in a way that leaves people better off in daily life, and not only in economic headlines. In this article, I want to discuss why Malta’s economy needs to be built on innovation economy.
