European funds must be a concrete tool to improve people’s lives

European funds are a crucial tool, but on their own they achieve nothing. They require direction, vision and good governance to truly reach people and make a real difference in their lives.
This was the message delivered by PN Leader Alex Borg during his closing address at the conference “Shaping the Future of the European Social Fund”, organised by MEP David Casa at the Grand Hotel Excelsior.
Alex Borg stated that conferences such as this are essential as they create space for policymakers, professionals, voluntary organisations and others to listen to one another, learn from each other and jointly develop practical solutions.
He emphasised that before decisions are taken, the realities faced by people must be understood. Consultation is therefore fundamental to ensure that policy is more realistic, more effective and closer to those who need support most.
The PN Leader thanked the organisations, professionals and volunteers present for their work, which often goes unrecognised but has a real impact on people’s lives, helping individuals regain their footing, supporting families and strengthening communities.

He made particular reference to the work of organisations such as Caritas Malta, supporting people facing serious difficulties, and Inspire Foundation, which works with persons with disabilities. He described these as living examples of what can be achieved when society chooses not to leave anyone behind.
He also thanked the Head of Delegation of the Partit Nazzjonalista in the European Parliament David Casa for his continuous work on social issues and his central role in negotiations on the European Social Fund within the current financial framework.
Alex Borg explained that the European Social Fund is one of the most important instruments available as it invests directly in people: in students so they can continue their studies, in young people to enter in employment with greater confidence, in workers to improve their skills, in those who have been out of the labour market to be given a second chance, as well as in persons with disabilities and vulnerable families.
The PN Leader stressed that Malta needs a strong voice in Europe. One that understands the country’s realities, knows what is needed and is capable of influencing decisions so that funds are more effective, better targeted and closer to people.
He reiterated that the Partit Nazzjonalista believes in strong social policy: one that places people at the centre, addresses real needs and delivers concrete results. He noted that the country is facing significant challenges, including the rising cost of living placing pressure on families, young people struggling to build their future and many individuals feeling left behind.
To all those working in the social and community sectors, Alex Borg delivered a clear message: the Partit Nazzjonalista stands with them, is listening to them and wants to work with them, both in Europe through its work on EU funds and in Malta through policies that prioritise people.
The PN Leader concluded by stating that Malta needs clear direction and leadership that prioritises people so that together we can build a fairer, more inclusive and stronger country.
