LESA and Transport Malta officers carrying out road monitoring and enforcement work to be granted a pension after 25 years of service

A new Nationalist Government will extend the pension scheme after 25 years of service to LESA and Transport Malta workers who carry out monitoring and enforcement of traffic regulations on the roads, as recognition of their important service towards public safety.

PN Leader Alex Borg says a new Nationalist Government will restore respect towards the disciplined forces and strengthen peace of mind for families

A new Nationalist Government will extend the pension scheme after 25 years of service to LESA and Transport Malta workers who carry out monitoring and enforcement of traffic regulations on the roads, as recognition of their important service towards public safety.

Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg announced this in Żabbar during an activity with the participation of PN candidates on the second district, where he also spoke about the proposals he announced earlier today in relation to safety.

He said that a safe country is not built with words, but with investment, respect and motivated people. That is why a new Nationalist Government will restore dignity to the disciplined forces and make the safety of Maltese and Gozitan families a national priority. He said that when many are asleep, these workers are on guard; and when many are at home, they are running towards danger.

Alex Borg said that for too long, the disciplined forces have been taken for granted. Today there are frustrated police officers, soldiers who need more resources, members of the Civil Protection Department who do extraordinary work with limited means, and former officers who left because they became disheartened. A new Nationalist Government will change this reality by investing in pay, working conditions, the safety of workers, and a more modern and humane working environment.

The PN Leader said that those who protect our country deserve a country that protects them too. That is why a new Nationalist Government will introduce the pay and pension measure for members of the disciplined forces who, after 25 years of service, choose to continue working and continue giving their experience to the country.

Alex Borg also stated that a Nationalist Government will update the service pension every year, linked to the current rank, so that it is equivalent to two-thirds of the current salary of that rank. At the same time, pensioners from the disciplined forces will also be given an annual cost-of-living adjustment on their service pension. The PN Leader said that a new Nationalist Government will also address injustices suffered by members of the disciplined forces and provide compensation where necessary, while also launching a scheme to encourage former members of the disciplined forces who left to return.

A Nationalist Government will reopen closed police stations, repair those that are in a poor state, and provide police officers with the necessary resources, while investing to modernise the Armed Forces with more training, new technology and strengthening in areas such as cyber security, search and rescue, and crisis response. He also spoke about reform at the Corradino Correctional Facility so that it becomes, above all, a place of rehabilitation. He said that he would also provide the Civil Protection Department with the best possible equipment, technology and investment.

“I want to see a safe country, where mothers and fathers do not have to worry about whether their children will get home safely. And I want to give more dignity to those who keep us safe.”

During this activity, PN candidates on the second district also addressed those present. The second district is made up of Birgu, Isla, Bormla, Żabbar, Fgura, Marsaskala and Xgħajra.

Bernice Bonello said that throughout the four years she served in Parliament, she remained close to people, continuing to visit them and listen to them. She thanked all those who form part of the second district for the support they gave her throughout these years, and also thanked all those from this district who served the Partit Nazzjonalista and the country. She said that in recent days the PN has announced many proposals, including the removal of stamp duty on inheritance. This proposal will remove a major burden from people. She said that this is only one PN proposal that will help people, and although the road ahead is uphill, together we will get there.

John Baptist Camilleri said that he will continue working for the good of the country and for the residents of the second district. He praised Alex Borg’s leadership and said that he feels proud to be part of this strong team. He referred to the PN’s proposal for a Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub — a proposal that threw the Labour Party into such disarray that it started trying to scare people about it. In reality, this will generate significant wealth for the economy, while also freeing Marsaxlokk Bay and surrounding residents from having a gas tanker on their doorstep. Now, he said, we are waiting for Labour to copy this proposal too. He appealed to people to continue following the PN’s proposals and, on 30 May, to give our country A Fresh Start.

Leone Sciberras said that, as happened everywhere else, the second district gave Alex Borg a wonderful welcome. He said that after being entrusted by the people to serve in the Local Council, he is now asking for their trust in him to serve in Parliament. He said that his lack of sight means he needs a strong leg to lean on, and he found that strong leg in the Partit Nazzjonalista, just as our country will find a strong government in the PN. He said that this is clear from the PN’s proposals, and listed the strong proposals for the elderly. He said that people are showing that they see hope in the PN, and appealed to those who are still not convinced to closely follow what the Partit Nazzjonalista is offering and, on 30 May, to trust Alex Borg with the leadership of our country.

Stephen Spiteri opened his intervention by saying that he feels A Fresh Start in the air. He thanked those present and said that he feels proud to form part of this district, and that it is a privilege for him, as a doctor, to enter people’s homes every day. This, he said, helps him better understand different realities. He spoke about the Partit Nazzjonalista’s vision across all sectors, including health, so that Maltese and Gozitan people have the hospitals they deserve. He said that the Partit Nazzjonalista has long been building this vision, while a Labour Government, in 13 years, forgot people’s health. Now, every time the PN puts forward a proposal, Labour ends up copying it, as it did with cancer medicines which, until recently, it had been saying could not be provided for free. He said that a Nationalist Government led by Alex Borg will give Maltese and Gozitan people healthcare with dignity.

In Żabbar, the Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that on 30 May we will have a few seconds to vote.

“Use those five seconds wisely. Use them so that Malta and Gozo can take A Fresh Start. Use them so that together we bring about the change our country deserves,” said Alex Borg.
