The Partit Nazzjonalista notes with concern what is being reported in the media and expresses its concern over the delays people are facing in securing appointments for screening for sexually transmitted infections.
According to a report published today by the Times of Malta, reported cases of sexually transmitted infections in Malta have increased fivefold over the past decade. This is placing increasing pressure on screening services, with some patients reportedly facing waits of up to nine months for an appointment. Others have also complained about delays in obtaining an appointment or difficulties in booking a test altogether.
While we appreciate the valuable work being carried out by professionals in this field, we are concerned that such delays risk allowing infections to spread further. This situation is unacceptable.
The PN continues to insist on the need for an efficient walk-in clinic operating extended hours, including at weekends.
Under a Labour Government, and also as a result of the sharp increase in population, people continue to suffer the consequences of inadequate planning and are forced to spend far too long waiting for essential services. These excessive delays cause considerable inconvenience to patients and, more importantly, may also be detrimental to their health.
The Partit Nazzjonalista maintains that the health of every individual must be treated as a priority in all circumstances.
It also insists that both immediate and long-term planning must effectively address patients’ needs without further delay.
