On World Maritime Day, we want to thank all those who have built the success of this sector. But recognition alone is not enough. We need to listen to what is working, where the challenges lie and what decisions are needed to ensure Malta remains strong in such an important sector.
On World Maritime Day, the Partit Nazzjonalista announces that it will organise a conference on the future of the sector
On World Maritime Day, the Partit Nazzjonalista salutes all the workers and professionals who drive Malta’s maritime sector. The position Malta has achieved in shipping and yachting, ports, logistics and maritime services is the result of their hard work, expertise and dedication.
For an island nation, the maritime sector is essential to the supplies reaching Malta, to trade, employment and our connections with the rest of the world. The sector’s achievements deserve recognition. They also deserve policies that listen to those working in the field and help them prepare for the changes ahead.
The theme chosen by the International Maritime Organization for this year’s World Maritime Day is From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence. For Malta, this means that decisions on the future of the sector must be shaped and implemented together with those who face its realities every day.
The Partit Nazzjonalista is therefore announcing that it will organise a conference dedicated to the maritime sector on Friday, 4 December 2026. The conference will bring together workers, industry representatives and experts to discuss the strengths Malta has built, the challenges facing the sector both locally and at European level, and what needs to be done to ensure Malta is prepared for the future.
Among the issues to be discussed will be competitiveness, costs, maritime connectivity, skills and opportunities for workers, innovation, and the transition towards cleaner operations. The conference will also examine how European policies and regulations are affecting an island nation such as Malta.
On World Maritime Day, we want to thank all those who have built the success of this sector.

The conference being organised by the Partit Nazzjonalista this coming December will provide an opportunity to build that work together.
