Our country cannot move forward without investing in infrastructure
While the Government’s recurrent expenditure continues to rise, spending on capital projects is falling. Instead of investing more in the country’s infrastructure to support population growth, we are investing less.

While the Government’s recurrent expenditure continues to rise, spending on capital projects is falling. Instead of investing more in the country’s infrastructure to support population growth, we are investing less.
During a pre-Budget meeting with a delegation from the Chamber of SMEs, the Leader of the Opposition and the Partit Nazzjonalista, Alex Borg, said it was concerning that, despite the Labour Party’s pre-election pledge to invest in mass transport, there now appeared to be a significant discrepancy between the statements of the Minister responsible for mobility and those of the Minister for Finance, who is casting serious doubt on whether the project can be delivered.

He highlighted several other sectors requiring serious planning and well-planned investment, including energy, where he said Malta must be more ambitious in its investment in renewable energy.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista also discussed the economic situation, stressing the need to ensure that growth translates into real improvements for both businesses and the public.

On productivity, the Malta Chamber of SMEs said that the points raised by the Partit Nazzjonalista were reflected in several of its own proposals. It said it would be a mistake to fail to recognise that the country’s problems must be addressed holistically and collectively.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that the Opposition would also continue its work on governance, seeking to ensure that serious debate in Parliament leads to the implementation of the necessary reforms, so that people and businesses regain confidence in the institutions, as this too affects businesses in Malta.
Also present at the meeting were Shadow Minister for Finance Adrian Delia and Shadow Minister for the Economy, Technology and Capital Projects Darren Carabott.
