A Budget that failed to address everyday problems
The Government has once again presented a Budget that offers no clear direction towards an economic model that does not depend on population growth. It has also once again failed to invest in education in a way that aligns it with the future needs of the labour market.
PN says the Government has once again missed an opportunity to resolve people’s everyday problems
The Government’s Budget has left people facing the same problems they had last week.
During a Partit Nazzjonalista press conference, Shadow Minister for Energy and the Environment Mark Anthony Sammut, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Employment Julian Borg and Spokesperson for Employment Annabelle Cilia said that the Government had once again missed an opportunity to resolve people’s everyday problems.
After a summer of power cuts, days and nights spent in the heat, businesses losing trade, food being thrown away, burnt-out appliances and vulnerable people left unable to use their medical equipment, the Minister for Finance said that the Government’s investment in energy was delivering results. This is an insult to the intelligence of the people of Malta and Gozo.
This Budget also failed to deliver on the promises made by the Labour Party just a few months ago to give parents more time with their children and workers greater flexibility in the workplace, ensuring a better work-life balance and safeguarding workers’ wellbeing.
The Government has once again presented a Budget that offers no clear direction towards an economic model that does not depend on population growth. It has also once again failed to invest in education in a way that aligns it with the future needs of the labour market.
The country’s infrastructure and transport have also been left behind, and we still do not know what will become of the projects mentioned before the election. Before the Budget, we were stuck in traffic, and it looks as though that is where we will remain.
The Partit Nazzjonalista spokespersons said that the Government had once again squandered an opportunity to improve people’s lives, despite the many fine promises in its Int Malta electoral manifesto.
