A Budget without direction
The PN spokespersons said that ministers’ refusal to explain what the Government aims to achieve through its measures concerning foreign workers clearly indicates that no studies were carried out before these measures were announced.
PN says the Government has once again presented a Budget that gives the country no clear direction
The Budget presented by the Government fails to provide a vision or a clear direction for our country.
During a Partit Nazzjonalista press conference, Shadow Minister for the Self-Employed, Small Enterprises and Cooperatives Michael Piccinino, Shadow Minister for Youth, Wellbeing and Implementation of the Electoral Programme Eve Borg Bonello, and PN Spokesperson for Quality of Life Ian Vassallo said that, just months after the Labour Party promised to solve the country’s problems, this Budget offered no new direction.
Worse still, the Labour Government is now passing the bill for its own mistakes on to businesses that have prudently invested their money and time while taking risks.
The PN spokespersons said that ministers’ refusal to explain what the Government aims to achieve through its measures concerning foreign workers clearly indicates that no studies were carried out before these measures were announced.
Furthermore, this Budget gives no indication of how the Government intends to start improving the Wellbeing Index, which featured so prominently before the election and which the Labour Party pledged to raise by 25%. The spokespersons said that wellbeing is measured not in money, but in mental health, functioning services and infrastructure that meets people’s needs.
This Budget has reassured no one that action is being taken to address the stress caused by traffic, the shortage of affordable housing, the lack of family time, the lack of a clean environment and open spaces, shortcomings in health and education services, and other problems.
The Government still needs to explain clearly the purpose of the measures it announced, the targets it has set and the studies underpinning its decisions.
