A Labour Government that closed the animal hospital opened by a Nationalist Government cannot be credible on animal welfare

If there was ever a government that cared for animals and for all those who love them, it was a Nationalist Government, which in 2010 opened the Ċentru San Franġisk animal hospital.

Instead of wasting time on lies, the Animal Welfare Commissioner should use her time to give animals the dignified service they deserve

If there was ever a government that cared for animals and for all those who love them, it was a Nationalist Government, which in 2010 opened the Ċentru San Franġisk animal hospital.

At the time, a Nationalist Government created a service that gave peace of mind to every animal lover that, in the event of an emergency at any time of day or night, they would find a veterinary service for their pet.

Three years ago, a Labour Government closed this hospital and abandoned these animals. Now, injured or sick animals are ending up being taken to a clinic that has no hospital licence, operating for only five hours a day.

Today, the person who is supposed to be our country’s Animal Welfare Commissioner — while also being an approved Labour Party candidate — tried to rewrite history by claiming that the animal hospital was opened by a Labour Government. What she should have said is that a Labour Government closed it.

It would be far better if Fleur Abela did what is expected of her and, instead of defending a Government that has abandoned animals, started defending those she is paid from public funds to defend — our animals.

For years, the Labour Government has been stringing people along on animal welfare and has lost all credibility in this sector.

On the contrary, as promised yesterday by PN Leader Alex Borg, a new Partit Nazzjonalista Government will reopen the animal hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including at night, at weekends and on public holidays.

Our animals too deserve A Fresh Start.
