With a clear vision, we continue to present more strong proposals for you

Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg reveals how Robert Abela made a “no show” in Europe and a “no show” before the Maltese and Gozitan people; in Żurrieq, he says this is an election between a Labour Party clinging to power and a Partit Nazzjonalista with a vision for the people
Our vision for energy will give A Fresh Start to families, to those who live alone, to farmers, to livestock breeders and to voluntary organisations, including band clubs. And from 1 January, they will start receiving cheaper electricity bills.
During a political activity in Żurrieq, Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg said that a Nationalist Government will ensure that no one is left behind. He said that what the PN has announced so far is only the beginning and, in the coming days, people will be able to see the full vision that the Partit Nazzjonalista has for every sector.
“They told us we were not prepared. Look at the proposals we are putting forward. They told us we do not have the people to govern. Look at the team of candidates we have, ready to lead the country forward.”
Alex Borg said that Robert Abela called an early election a year ahead of schedule using the international situation as an excuse, yet today he made a “no show” at a European Summit where the leaders of the European Union discussed current global challenges, including Ukraine and the impact of the situation in Iran.
This clearly shows that not even Robert Abela himself believes the excuse he used to call an early election. “This is not Robert Abela serving the people, but Robert Abela using the people,” said Alex Borg.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that, instead of defending Malta’s interests around the European table, Robert Abela abdicated his responsibility. While Robert Abela chose not to attend, Malta had Roberta Metsola leading the European agenda and working to safeguard our country’s interests.
Alex Borg said that Robert Abela’s “no show” in Europe was not the only one. This is because he also chose a “no show” before the Maltese and Gozitan people, after refusing a political debate with him on PBS despite having accepted the debate on Xtra with Saviour Balzan, after the date had been announced and the adverts had even been released. Alex Borg said that he is ready for every debate whenever journalists call on him.
Robert Abela does not want to debate because he does not want ideas to be tested, because he does not want to give people the opportunity to listen, reflect and choose who they want to lead our country over the next five years.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that this is not an election between two people, but an election between a Labour Party that wants to hold on to power at all costs and a Partit Nazzjonalista that wants to lead Malta and Gozo forward with a clear vision.
Alex Borg said that, in the first week of the campaign, we saw Robert Abela in panic mode, throwing out proposals without thought, without direction and without calculations, while the Partit Nazzjonalista remained focused and began presenting its vision seriously and step by step. A clear vision for health, for Gozo and a clear vision for energy.
Among the proposals already announced by the Partit Nazzjonalista are its vision for health, a reduction in electricity bills by an average of 30% for families and those living alone, a 15% reduction for farmers and voluntary organisations, an investment of around €60 million in solar panels, and a 25% increase in student stipends.
Alex Borg said that his vision is for a Malta where the economy serves the person, the family and the community; a Malta where work pays better; where young people have the chance to buy their own home and build a future in their own country; where growth gives people breathing space and not anxiety; and where the Government is a bridge that helps people move forward.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista appealed to the people to continue spreading the message of A Fresh Start. “Join us. This is the Moment for us, together, to give A Fresh Start to our Malta,” concluded Alex Borg.
PN candidates Jonathan Muscat and Mark Anthony Sammut also addressed the activity.
Jonathan Muscat said it is clear that the proposals of the Partit Nazzjonalista have made an impact because Miriam Dalli – who in recent years was responsible for energy – quickly tried to discredit them. He said that the energy measures announced by the PN were drawn up by a team of professionals and will improve the lives of many people. He referred to how Labour found one billion euro in European funds, gorged themselves as much as they could, and forgot the people. And they forgot so much that they also forgot the gas supply contract for the power station, which expires in four months’ time.
For his part, Mark Anthony Sammut said that the energy measures announced by the Partit Nazzjonalista will not provide a one-off solution but a long-term solution that leaves more money in people’s pockets. He said that a Nationalist Government will remove the meter rental charge from every home – covering around 228,000 residential accounts.
He also explained how, instead of the cheapest rate applying to the first 2,000 units, it will start applying to 6,000 units. A person living alone will benefit from further reductions as they will be able to benefit more easily from the eco-reduction. This means that a person living alone will see up to a 42% reduction in their electricity bill. Farmers and livestock breeders will also be exempt from paying meter rental on their fields – a reduction of between €120 and €360. This is in addition to a 15% discount on the tariff they are paying today. Voluntary organisations – organisations working with animals, in sport, in culture and traditions – will also benefit from a 15% discount on their bills and will also be exempt from paying rental charges. Mark Anthony Sammut said that all this has been studied and is not, as Labour claimed, based on poor calculations. Poor calculations are made by those who, three and a half months before the gas supply contract expires, do not know how much they will be paying for it; by those who robbed the people through their bills for years on end; by those who, when the PN spoke about the theft through the eco-reduction, said it was not true, only to later have to refund money on thousands of bills. He said that the Partit Nazzjonalista is thinking of you so that you pay less and live better.
Malcolm Zammit, an engineer and former President of the Chamber of Engineers, also addressed the activity and spoke about the link between affordable and clean energy and security of supply. He said that sustainability is very important for our islands – both economically and for the people. He maintained that the Partit Nazzjonalista’s proposals for a substantial shift towards renewable energy send a clear message and give direction to the rest of the country to move towards clean energy. He praised the proposal to use public buildings such as schools, car parks and others for this purpose, without taking up agricultural land. Malcolm Zammit concluded by saying that, by investing in renewable energy, we would be fighting climate change. He also praised the support these measures will provide to the voluntary sector and expressed his hope that these proposals will be implemented.
