As it has always done, a Nationalist Government will deliver a new vision for our country

As it has always done, a Nationalist Government will give our country a new direction based on a clear vision that gives everyone A Fresh Start.

PN Leader Alex Borg in Valletta: “We will continue investing in the elderly and we will deliver our vision for health”

As it has always done, a Nationalist Government will give our country a new direction based on a clear vision that gives everyone A Fresh Start.

During a political activity in Jean de Valette Square Valletta, together with all Partit Nazzjonalista candidates contesting the First District, Alex Borg said that this square is another certificate of the vision of a Nationalist Government and a legacy for the nation that will be enjoyed for many generations. Just as it did then, today the Partit Nazzjonalista is ready to give the country a new direction.

Alex Borg saluted those who served our country from this district, particularly Guido de Marco, who was crucial in Malta’s journey towards EU membership. He also saluted Antoine Mifsud Bonnici, who was present, as well as Austin Gatt, Jean Pierre Farrugia and Claudio Grech, who worked so much for the country.

Alex Borg said that the Partit Nazzjonalista has always had a strong vision for Malta, so much so that Labour Governments continued building on that foundation. And today this is still happening, because the Partit Nazzjonalista is still presenting a vision for our country.

The PN Leader said that Labour today announced its health proposals – a party in Government that has failed in health over the past 13 years is now saying that it has a vision. He said that after the Labour Party ridiculed the Partit Nazzjonalista’s pledge for free cancer treatment, today it presented it as its own proposal. Alex Borg said that the Labour Party has no credibility left on health, and today it is a Nationalist Government that can deliver a serious vision for health.

A Nationalist Government will continue building on what Nationalist Governments started for the elderly. A new Nationalist Government will ensure that the elderly have the service of their family doctor free of charge; that their medicines are delivered to their homes free of charge; that grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren are rewarded with a grant of €2,000 a year; that pensions increase by €650 a year every year; and that elderly people living in care homes are given financial support by a Nationalist Government, because we have an obligation towards our elderly, said Alex Borg.

These come on top of other measures announced by the PN which will give the elderly A Fresh Start: lower electricity bills from next January, investment in new hospitals, and more. He said that there is still much to be done. And the Partit Nazzjonalista is determined to keep working more than ever before.

“The moment has arrived. Your country is calling you. Now is the time for Malta to rise again. Together we can write a new chapter for our Malta and Gozo,” said Alex Borg.

Before Alex Borg’s address, Mario de Marco delivered his speech, saying that the first time he contested an election was in 2003, when our country faced an important choice: whether it wanted to join Europe or not. He said he is proud to have made his contribution to making this happen. At the time, the people’s dream was not the Labour Party’s project, and it was only thanks to the PN’s vision that the people’s dream became a reality. This happened through a new generation of politicians who believed. He said that he always tried to carry out his duties in the best way possible with everyone, because that is the obligation of politicians. He saluted Lawrence Gonzi and thanked him for the trust he always showed in him, as well as Francis Zammit Dimech, who always served with humility and loyalty.

Mario de Marco said that he also had the privilege of serving as Deputy Leader of the Party. He said that he felt the time had come to give space to others to fulfil their duty in Parliament. Renewal is a natural process of life, said de Marco, and it would be wrong to try to stop it. However, he said that he will continue serving and offering his commitment so that on 30 May we see Alex Borg as Prime Minister of Malta, because this people deserves A Fresh Start. “I am here. I will remain here. I will always be here.”

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista, Alex Borg, thanked Mario de Marco for his work, commitment and loyalty towards the country and the party, and invited him to continue giving his contribution so that our country can move forward.

During this activity, PN candidates for the 30 May election on the First District also made their interventions.

Darren Carabott said that his parents always taught him never to forget where he came from. He saluted Mario de Marco, whom he said had been a source of support when he was studying to become a lawyer. He said that when, four years ago, he was about to contest his first election, he met a person who was worried because the light outside their home was not working. He said that on that day he understood even more the importance of people’s safety. He referred to the PN’s work on security even from Opposition. He also spoke about the new niche in which a Nationalist Government wants to invest, the Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub, and how Labour criticised it. But the Partit Nazzjonalista will continue working for what truly brings returns for everyone, such as projects like this. And it will continue working so that, with Alex Borg as the new Prime Minister, we bring about the change this country deserves.

Antonello Cuschieri said that he is proud to now be a PN candidate. A party that embraces the same values he holds. He spoke about how the Partit Nazzjonalista is presenting proposals that are truly people’s priorities – proposals on health, tax reform, incentives for businesses, proposals in favour of families and pensioners, and new niches for our country’s economy. The PN has a big vision for this country, and there is a need to vote for change so that, with the Partit Nazzjonalista in Government, these pledges are delivered. And to do this, we must continue working to convince people that, with their vote, together we can give our country A Fresh Start.

James Aaron Ellul saluted and thanked all journalists, particularly those of Net Media, for the work they are carrying out throughout this campaign. He said that he took his first steps in the Floriana Local Council, but today he is contesting to work for a better country for those who come after us. He said that the PN is clearly showing how much it is also thinking about the future, referring to the Child Trust Fund as an example. This is among a long list of proposals, such as those for work-life balance. He thanked Mario de Marco, whom he said had always been a source of support during his personal journey, and concluded by appealing for a PN government that takes care of everyone. He appealed for support for the Partit Nazzjonalista on 30 May – a party that, to this day, remains the underdog, but which can bring real change: A Fresh Start with Alex Borg as Prime Minister.

Paula Mifsud Bonnici said that the Labour Party used to say that the Partit Nazzjonalista had no proposals. Today the PN is showing its vision for this country. A vision for the building of hospitals, for lower electricity bills, and for our elderly through a strong set of proposals announced today, which will ensure that elderly people living in care homes keep more of their pension in their pockets. She said that it was the Labour Party that, in 1981, froze pensions and wages. A new Nationalist Government will increase pensions for the elderly and will not deceive them as Labour did with its billboards. A Nationalist Government will ensure that elderly people have their family doctor’s service free of charge and will deliver their medicines to their homes. She said that it is the Partit Nazzjonalista that can truly once again give the elderly A Fresh Start.

Alex Perici Calascione saluted Antoine Mifsud Bonnici, who was present, and Mario de Marco, and thanked them for their work. He spoke about the work of the Partit Nazzjonalista and the proposals it is presenting. Proposals which, he said, are built first and foremost on the Partit Nazzjonalista’s love for the country. He said that when the Partit Nazzjonalista presented its proposals on succession taxes, it did so because it wants to present politics for the people. The PN will continue presenting proposals that improve lives, and from Government it wants to deliver them. But for this to happen, we must continue convincing people and we must keep working with energy. This is not a party moment but a national moment. And together we can achieve the good that our people deserve.

Justin Schembri thanked all those attending Partit Nazzjonalista activities and all those working so that the country can have A Fresh Start with a Nationalist Government led by Alex Borg. He said that he is proud to have had the opportunity to serve the country in Parliament and that he wants to continue working for our country. He said that the proposals being presented by the PN are built on what it has heard from the people, and stressed that the Partit Nazzjonalista wants to invest fully in education – not only for young people but for people of all ages. He recalled the strong legacy of Nationalist Governments in education, which built a new school every year. He concluded by saying that a new Nationalist Government will once again invest fully in education because it believes that a strong society is built on it.

The next political activity will be held tomorrow at 6.30pm in Żabbar, with interventions by PN candidates on the Second District and an address by PN Leader Alex Borg.
