In Rabat, Malta, PN Leader Alex Borg says that good politics is politics that improves your quality of life, not just the country’s economy

Through its electoral programme, the Partit Nazzjonalista has placed all of you at the centre. Good politics is politics that places people at its heart and improves your quality of life.

During a political activity in Rabat, Malta, during which the PN candidates on the seventh district were presented, Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said that the PN wants to ensure that everyone reaches their full potential, not because they depend on a minister or on the government, but because they are given the opportunity to grow.

Alex Borg mentioned a number of Partit Nazzjonalista proposals, including reductions in personal and company taxes, new niches that will generate wealth for the whole country and be invested in hospitals, and cheaper electricity bills for families, farmers, livestock breeders, voluntary organisations and clubs. These measures are aimed at removing burdens from people, with an economy that works and leaves more money in the pockets of workers and families.

The PN Leader said that a Nationalist Government will reward the hard work of those who work responsibly by ensuring that the first €10,000 earned from overtime and part-time work remains fully in the worker’s pocket, with no tax paid on it.

Alex Borg also explained the Partit Nazzjonalista’s plan on population and the labour market, as well as on infrastructure so that it can meet today’s needs, including schools, health services and security services.

Traffic, Alex Borg said, has become a scourge that today has become part of everyday normality — but this should not be the case. The Partit Nazzjonalista Leader said that a Nationalist Government has a holistic plan that will offer a solution to traffic problems, including short-term measures such as the scheme that rewards people for using their car less, but also through a project that will offer a more lasting solution — the Mass Rapid Transport system — which will provide a serious, modern and reliable alternative to get where one needs to go.

The Partit Nazzjonalista Leader urged everyone who believes in a better Malta to continue being part of this new chapter that is being written.

“Let us keep going until the very last moment, knocking on doors and convincing more people so that on Saturday we give A Fresh Start to our Malta and Gozo.”

This activity was also addressed by the seven Partit Nazzjonalista candidates contesting this district.

Andrew Agius said that, as a young candidate, he wanted to send a message to young people, saying that the Partit Nazzjonalista has always been the natural home of young people. He mentioned a number of proposals that affect young people, including investment in schools at every level, increases in stipends for all students and a stipend equivalent to the minimum wage for those who pursue studies in health, incentives for young people entering employment, support for young people to buy their first home, and other measures that give young people A Fresh Start. The wave started by Alex Borg must now be continued by young people, he said, adding that the PN’s 65 candidates, united around Leader Alex Borg, are presenting themselves to the people to serve and to give A Fresh Start to Malta and Gozo.

Charles Azzopardi said that throughout his work he never looked at colours and, when he was forced to choose, he chose to turn towards a Partit Nazzjonalista that welcomed him with open arms. He said that today, instead of feeling discarded, as he had been discarded by the so-called workers’ party, he feels proud to form part of a party that is working for a better country. He said that the Labour Party has ended up trying to copy the same proposals of the Partit Nazzjonalista after first ridiculing them. He said that “Malta Tagħna Lkoll” was not Malta for the people, but only for those at the heart of Labour. He said that the Labour Party is in panic, but while they panic, the Partit Nazzjonalista continues to grow stronger.

Rebekah Borg spoke about the social soul of the people of Rabat — the many farmers and livestock breeders who live in this district. She said that over recent years she has listened to the problems they are facing — the new water they were promised but never received, the pitkalija crates, and young people who are no longer working the land. She said that the PN’s proposals for farmers will ensure that, as a country, we protect and recognise their work and the value of the Maltese farmer’s work and of fresh Maltese produce. She said that the Labour Party in government forgot farmers, while the Partit Nazzjonalista listened to them. The proposal to remove the electricity meter rental charge is evidence of this. Rebekah Borg said that, under a government led by Alex Borg, these proposals will come into force.

Adrian Delia said that when he was asked what he wanted to speak about that morning, he said he wanted to speak about the cost of doing nothing. He said that he was not addressing those present, but the thousands who did not vote in recent years. He reminded them that the decision to do nothing carries a price, and invited them to think about whether we can endure another eight years with health services that cannot keep up with the population, and whether we can continue living in a suffocated country. He said that in recent weeks we have seen others insult and attack, but the Partit Nazzjonalista has remained steadfast. He invited those who have still not collected their voting document to do so and reflect, and on Saturday to fulfil their duty and choose their own future and that of our country. He appealed to them: “Do not throw away this opportunity; rise up and be true Maltese.”

Paul Mazzola said that traffic in Malta, which the Government over the past 13 years has allowed to increasingly suffocate our roads, is causing many respiratory illnesses among Maltese people, including asthma. He said that this affects the elderly and children the most. Elderly people suffer greatly financially when they develop this allergy, while children develop an allergy that stays with them for life. He said that this can lead to more cancer illnesses. Here, he mentioned how in Malta only 16% of cancer medicines are paid for by the government, while in many European countries these are 100% paid for by the government. He said that wealth does not come from nothing, but from planning. He appealed for everyone to go out on Saturday and vote for all Partit Nazzjonalista candidates.

Anton Mifsud spoke about the need for more investment in schools, both through maintenance where needed and through the building of new schools where necessary to serve the ever-growing population. He said that he is meeting many people who have not voted for the Partit Nazzjonalista for a long time, and that many of them are turning back to the Partit Nazzjonalista because they see in it the hope of a better life. He mentioned, among other things, the proposals that will help farmers and livestock breeders — support that will further strengthen Maltese produce, which is so precious, and work that is also part of our identity as Maltese and Gozitans. He appealed for everyone to do their duty on Saturday and vote for A Fresh Start for our islands.

Ian Vassallo said that in recent years, from Opposition, the Partit Nazzjonalista has worked as hard as it could for the people, for the residents of Dingli, Mtarfa, Żebbuġ and Rabat. He recalled the many times the Partit Nazzjonalista spoke about the Rabat health centre that was supposed to close for three months, but instead remained closed for 17 months for minor maintenance and refurbishment. He said that a Nationalist Government has a plan to turn health services into quality services, and will not leave people begging for an efficient health service. He said that a Nationalist Government is offering a clear plan for health, while the Labour Party is trying to ridicule this plan because Labour has no vision for health. He mentioned how a Nationalist Government will ensure that health professionals have the conditions they deserve, and that patients have quality medicines. He appealed for everyone on Saturday to join in a vote in favour of A Fresh Start for Maltese and Gozitans.

The Partit Nazzjonalista’s political activities will continue tomorrow evening with a Mass Meeting in Victoria, Gozo, addressed by PN Leader Alex Borg.
