In Siġġiewi, Alex Borg says that a new Nationalist Government will give families more time, reduce the burdens on people, and build a new economy that delivers back into the pockets of the Maltese and Gozitan people

The Maltese and Gozitan people face a clear choice: either everything remains as it is, with a tired Government that is detached from the people, or they choose A Fresh Start with a renewed Partit Nazzjonalista, new energy, and concrete proposals that will improve people’s lives.

This was the message delivered by Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg during the first mass meeting of this electoral campaign in Siġġiewi, where he stated that the general election of 30 May is not a formality, but an opportunity for the people to choose the direction of Malta and Gozo for the next five years.

On Mother’s Day, Alex Borg saluted all mothers and said that the greatest gift serious politics can give families is not fine words, but concrete measures. For this reason, a new Nationalist Government will extend maternity leave to six months on full pay, paternity leave to four weeks on full pay, introduce 15 days of leave paid by the Government when children are sick, and ensure that those who are self-employed also benefit from these new measures.

The PN Leader said that this is how politics improves quality of life: by giving parents more time with their children, families greater peace of mind, and more dignity in work and in everyday life.

Alex Borg said that the early election called by Robert Abela almost a year ahead of schedule was not called in the national interest, but because Robert Abela and those around him have too much to lose. He said the Prime Minister took the people for granted, but everywhere the PN is going, it is feeling that people are asking for A Fresh Start.

During his speech, Alex Borg said that the PN is presenting a serious economic vision that creates new wealth without adding pressure on the population, infrastructure, and families. Just as Nationalist Governments built sectors such as pharmaceuticals, aviation, maritime, and gaming, a new Nationalist Government will once again build new economic niches.

Among them, he mentioned the Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub, which is expected to generate around €450 million in the first three years and lead to the removal of the gas tanker from Marsaxlokk; investment in Data, AI and New Space, which is expected to generate around €100 million in the first five years; and the PORT project – a Cultural District in Marsa, with an investment of around €350 million and a return of around €110 million a year into the Maltese economy.

Alex Borg said that the aim of this new economy is for wealth to reach people. That is why the PN has already announced measures to reduce the burden on families and businesses, including an average 30% reduction in electricity bills, the removal of succession tax, the removal of tax on property donations from parents to children and grandchildren, a reduction in personal taxes and a reduction in company taxes.

On company taxes, Alex Borg recalled that companies with an income of less than €2 million will see their tax rate reduced from 35% to 15%, while companies with an income of more than €2 million and less than €10 million will see their tax rate reduced from 35% to 25%. He said these are not populist measures, but measures of social justice and pro-business measures, prepared seriously by a team of experts, professionals, and technocrats.

The PN Leader said that in the face of these proposals, Robert Abela responded only with panic, negativity, and attacks. He said the PN is proposing free cancer medicines, new hospitals, new economic niches, cheaper bills, and tax reductions, but Robert Abela has come out against everything.

Alex Borg said that Robert Abela may attack him as much as he wants, but he will not allow him to intimidate or smear the candidates, experts, and professionals working with the Partit Nazzjonalista. On the allegation linked to the Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub, Alex Borg again categorically denied ever meeting any smuggler or that there is any link between a smuggler and the PN’s project, and challenged Robert Abela to go to the Police if he has any information.

Alex Borg also criticised Robert Abela because, in his words, he no longer recognises the difference between the Party and the State, to the point that he is financing Labour propaganda with public funds. He also referred to the €4 million direct order to Arup for “transport advisory services”, saying that this shows a Prime Minister obsessed with power.

The PN Leader said Robert Abela had 13 years to change Malta, but instead of delivering on his promises, he left more frustration behind. He promised new hospitals and the people ended up with nothing; he promised to remove the LNG tanker from Marsaxlokk and kept it there; he promised a traffic solution through the metro and people remained stuck; he promised a tax reduction for companies and is now promising the same thing again; he promised to eradicate poverty, yet the cost of living continued to crush families.

Alex Borg appealed to first-time voters, to those who are considering whether to vote or not, and to those who voted Labour in the past but today feel that Robert Abela does not deserve 18 years in Government. He told them that if they do not vote, everything will remain as it is, and that a vote for the Partit Nazzjonalista means a vote for A Fresh Start.

“Change does not come on its own. It comes when a generation decides that it will no longer accept ‘they are all the same’ as an answer. Every vote counts. Every person you bring, every vote you attract, can change the result,” said Alex Borg.

He concluded by saying that the Partit Nazzjonalista remains the underdog, but with the people behind it, it can win and give Malta new leadership, a new team, new energy, and A Fresh Start.

“This is your moment. This is the moment for you to stand up and say: I am ready to do my part. This is your moment to give our Malta A Fresh Start,” concluded Alex Borg.

Before Alex Borg’s speech, the activity was addressed by two young people, Paul Serracino and Kim Baldacchino, who spoke about the future of Malta and Gozo and the need for the country to be given A Fresh Start.

Paul Serracino said that young people cannot remain passive in the face of such an important decision for the country’s future, at a time when they are feeling the weight of the cost of living, the difficulty of buying a home, traffic, excessive development, and pressure on mental health. He said young people want opportunities, not empty words, and stated that in Alex Borg he sees a leader who listens, understands, and is capable of giving Malta and Gozo A Fresh Start.

Kim Baldacchino spoke about the need for the country to take animal welfare, volunteers, farmers, and animal breeders seriously. She criticised the fact that the specialised animal hospital in Ta’ Qali has been closed for almost three years and said that Alex Borg’s promise to reopen this hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week, gives hope to all those who love and care for animals.
