In Mqabba, PN Leader Alex Borg says that a Nationalist Government will protect everything that makes us Maltese, implement people-centred politics and negotiate a new financial package for nurses

We want to protect everything that makes us Maltese.

Villages such as Mqabba, which have managed to preserve our culture thanks to the work of voluntary organisations, remind us how crucial the work of those who, over the years, have continued to safeguard what is Maltese truly is.

During a rally in Mqabba, during which the PN candidates contesting the fifth district were presented, Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said that these organisations are crucial to our country’s communities and that a Nationalist Government will safeguard everything that gives us our identity.

He said that a Nationalist Government will reduce electricity bills for these organisations and remove the cost of their electricity meter rental, while also giving them further support by refunding every cent they pay in VAT. It will also widen the tax credit scheme so that those who donate to an organisation will be able to recover the tax. A Nationalist Government will also extend the Rent-to-Buy scheme so that organisations will be able to purchase the premises from which they operate, making them their own.

Alex Borg also spoke about hobbies, which often give people the opportunity to rest and, for a while, forget what is weighing on them. Here, he said that the Partit Nazzjonalista in Government will continue to protect all hobbies practised in our country.

The Partit Nazzjonalista Leader spoke about the team of candidates the Partit Nazzjonalista is presenting for the election of 30 May — a strong and renewed team that is ready to give Malta and Gozo A Fresh Start.

He referred to the PN’s electoral programme, built on 16 chapters inspired by people and shaped through politics built by the people. Alex Borg said that in Government, the Partit Nazzjonalista wants to implement policies that provide peace of mind in healthcare, after 13 years of a Labour Government that has lost all credibility in this sector. He referred to how, in recent days, nurses were once again forgotten by the Government, which negotiated a financial package for one sector in healthcare while leaving nurses where they were. He recalled the pledge that a new Nationalist Government will, in its first 100 days, negotiate a new financial package for nurses.

He also recalled that a Nationalist Government will ensure that every cancer patient receives all the treatment they need for free, without having to beg for it, and that a Nationalist Government wants to invest in new niches that will continue to generate returns in the future.

Alex Borg said that the people should have peace of mind that what is being promised can be delivered. That is why the Partit Nazzjonalista has presented new niches which will make it possible for a PN Government to remove succession tax, lower bills and leave more money in people’s pockets.

The Partit Nazzjonalista Leader said that those who gave Electrogas a €360,000 bank guarantee left us with two summers of power cuts, left us without an agreement for the gas supply when the current agreement expires in August, forgot to connect solar panels to the grid, and now want to criticise the Partit Nazzjonalista over its energy project.

He referred to how a Labour Government will once again leave us waiting another five years for a study on the mass transport project. A Nationalist Government, in its first five years, will start and complete the first and largest mass transport line.

Those who created an imbalance in the population are now telling us that in a few years there will be 800,000 people living in Malta, yet they did not write a single line about population in their electoral manifesto. The Partit Nazzjonalista has a clear plan for how our country can continue to develop, but with proper planning, through a dedicated authority that gives direction on population. The PN Leader said that this is what credibility means.

He said that the Partit Nazzjonalista is ready — it has a solid plan with which it can lead our country — but there is still work to be done. There are still people who do not yet believe that we can have politics that is ambitious, that works for people, and that can give us a better country. In the days that remain, together we must convince those who are undecided that, together with the Partit Nazzjonalista, they can be the catalysts for change — that they can decide their own future.

“This is your moment to give Malta and Gozo A Fresh Start.”

During this activity, the eight PN candidates on the fifth district also delivered their interventions.

Toni Bezzina said that a new Nationalist Government wants to offer people a real alternative and, in its first 100 days, begin work on the new mass transport system, which would start operating within five years. He spoke about other proposals through which a Nationalist Government will give fair returns to farmers and livestock breeders. He said that a Nationalist Government will work so that everyone can have a better life, and this can happen if we continue working so that, on 30 May, people choose A Fresh Start.

Conrad Borg Manché thanked all those who welcomed him into the Partit Nazzjonalista. He said that he believes the Labour Government is tired and that a new Nationalist Government is needed to move the country forward again. He stressed that it must be young people who shape the country’s future, and that they will be the ones to change this country. He said that he wants to be part of a politics that unites rather than divides, and urged all those who are still considering whether they should vote to vote for change.

Duncan Borg Myatt noted how the Party Leader always thanks everyone, but said that it is only right that we thank Alex Borg for the hope, positivity and energy he has brought to the country. He said that throughout this campaign, all we have heard from Labour is negativity — the opposite of what the Partit Nazzjonalista is projecting, with a full list of proposals for the whole of Malta to move forward. He appealed for everyone, in the final part of the campaign, to continue convincing people so that, on 1 June, we will have A Fresh Start.

Miriana Calleja Testaferrata de Noto said that, as a young person, she truly feels part of a generation that will lead Malta forward. She said that politics is the mechanism needed to bring about change. One of the greatest difficulties facing young people is buying property. She said that through its electoral programme, the Partit Nazzjonalista is offering solutions to these problems. She said that in recent years many people have moved away from politics. She appealed for no one to lose the opportunity to choose A Fresh Start by voting for the Partit Nazzjonalista on 30 May.

Stefan Caruana said that the Partit Nazzjonalista is presenting an electoral programme built on 16 pillars and 1,000 proposals — a collection of ideas so that people can have a better life. He said that education is the basis of many of these proposals. He said that the PN is presenting a complete plan for education and referred to the STEAM secondary school, focused on the sciences and the arts. This will ensure that every student, from secondary level, finds the path that allows them to reach their full potential. He said that on 30 May people will choose positivity — they will choose A Fresh Start with a Nationalist Government led by Alex Borg.

Oliver Cini said that the Labour Party launched all sorts of attacks on the Partit Nazzjonalista’s proposal for a Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub. He said that this project is intended to strengthen Malta’s economy. He said that this is only one of a list of proposals that aim not only to strengthen the economy but also to open the doors of opportunity and improve people’s lives. He stressed that all the work carried out over recent weeks, months and years was done to design policies that seek to give people a better life. He said that on 30 May, each person will have five seconds to choose their future and that of their loved ones.

Owen Sciberras thanked the leadership of the Partit Nazzjonalista for the trust it showed in him as a candidate on behalf of the Partit Nazzjonalista. He spoke about the environment and about the importance that, in the next election, we all vote so that it is protected more than it has been in recent years. He said that, in this area, the difference between the two parties is obvious. That is why on 30 May the choice is obvious — either we choose to remain as we are, with a forgotten environment, or we choose to give our country and our environment A Fresh Start by voting for all the candidates of the Partit Nazzjonalista.

Stanley Zammit said that in his work as an engineer, in the Council and also in Parliament, he has always kept to the premise of “keep it simple”, and that in its electoral programme the Partit Nazzjonalista did the same when it chose the theme A Fresh Start. A Fresh Start for the air and the environment, A Fresh Start for planning, A Fresh Start for our cultural organisations, A Fresh Start for families, for the elderly, for young people, and A Fresh Start for businesses that should not have to keep facing bureaucracy. He stressed that on 30 May, too, we must follow the premise of “keep it simple” and vote so that after this election we can have a simpler life — A Fresh Start, with Alex Borg as Prime Minister.
