PN Leader Alex Borg in discussion with young people
Young people must be involved in shaping policy for our country, and when I see young people like you active in different fields, I feel encouraged that our country has a bright future ahead.
Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said this during a discussion with a group of young people, which addressed various issues directly affecting their generation.
Transport and traffic challenges, young people’s involvement in volunteering, solutions to the challenges of buying property, participation in politics at both national and European level, sport and ambitions for success, and a Budget that takes a long-term view were among the topics discussed.
The PN Leader praised these young people’s involvement in different sectors of society and said that all the issues they raised deserved further discussion. Referring to the Budget due to be presented in the coming weeks, he said it must cater not only for today’s needs but also for future generations.

“We must have a long-term vision, and a well-designed Budget can help us address the challenges we face, by linking education with employment, providing more support to families to buy their own homes, making better use of opportunities in Europe, and introducing other measures as part of a plan that caters for everyone.”
The discussion, held at the Mediterranean College of Sports in Birkirkara, featured Michael Spiteri, a law student, Leon Briffa, who is active in student politics and volunteering, Chloe Cachia, a Gozitan lawyer and Vice-President of the European Youth Forum, Maya Lucia, who plays for Malta’s national football team, and Sean Grech, an international relations student. Each spoke about the fields in which they are involved and issues that affect them directly.

Shadow Minister for Youth Eve Borg Bonello said that young people’s involvement in every area of life is crucial, and that having young people active in politics helps ensure that we build a solid future across different sectors. She said that young people’s trust in politics is built on trust in the authorities and institutions, in accountability, and in those who hold office.

The young participants said that discussions like today’s are part of the solution and that more opportunities of this kind are needed to give them a voice and help shape policies relevant to present and future generations.
The PN Leader praised the young participants’ contributions to today’s discussion and encouraged more young people to become active in different areas of society.
The discussion was moderated by Krista Caruana Garcia and Jean Paul Barbara.
Partit Nazzjonalista activities continue today with the fundraising marathon, which starts at 3pm and will be broadcast live on NET TV and NET FM.
