Partit Nazzjonalista Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione represented the Partit Nazzjonalista at the first edition of the EPP Summer University, held at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, on 31 August and 1 September.
The European People’s Party (EPP) initiative aimed to strengthen the link between politics and academia by bringing together representatives of EPP member parties, academics and leading experts from various fields. The agenda included five sessions focusing on issues of direct relevance to the future of democracy and Europe.
The sessions addressed “The Communications Dilemma: Democracy, Information, and the Fragmented Public Sphere”, “Democratic Resilience: Protecting Foundational Values in an Era of Extremism”, and “Academic Research Nexus: Universities and Europe’s Strategic Future”.
The second day also featured discussions on “Technological Sovereignty: Innovation, AI and the Ethics of Power” and “Is Survival Enough? From Crisis Management to Strategic Vision”.
These discussions provided an important opportunity for contributions from academics from Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and other institutions, together with experts from the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies.
For PN Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione, participation in this initiative was also an opportunity to exchange views with EPP Secretary General Dolors Montserrat, President of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies Mikuláš Dzurinda, as well as colleagues from across the European People’s Party’s member parties.
The EPP Summer University provided a platform for an exchange of ideas between Europe’s centre-right political parties and the academic community, with a focus on the challenges facing European democracy, technology and artificial intelligence, technological sovereignty, and the need for a strategic vision for Europe’s future.
