Alex Borg says the Partit Nazzjonalista will remain focused on the realities people are facing; insists that the PN will continue its internal reform and remain close to the people
The strong confirmation vote delivered by the Party’s General Council is a clear mandate for the Party to continue along the path of renewal, with greater unity, discipline and presence among the people.
During an interview on NET TV and NET FM, Alex Borg thanked the Councillors for the confidence they had placed in him and said that this result brings with it an even greater responsibility for the Partit Nazzjonalista to continue strengthening its role as a serious and credible alternative to the Government. He explained that, now that the internal process has concluded, the priority is for the Party to continue being present in communities, listening to people and offering concrete solutions to the challenges facing Maltese and Gozitan families.
Speaking about the problems affecting several localities during the summer months, including Swieqi, Alex Borg said that residents have a right to a better quality of life and that tourism cannot continue to develop at the expense of those who live in these communities. He insisted that there is a need for more effective enforcement, a greater Police and Community Officer presence, stronger regulation of short-term lets, and Local Councils with more resources so that they can address these problems effectively.
Asked about public transport, the PN Leader said that the figures presented by the Government do not reflect passengers’ daily experiences, with many people often left waiting at bus stops or arriving late for work. Alex Borg said there is a need for greater transparency, more buses operating on routes and better planning, while reiterating that Malta needs a structural mass-transit solution rather than simply more studies.
Alex Borg also spoke about the power cuts that have once again affected several localities in recent days, saying that it is unacceptable that, in 2026, families are still suffering from repeated electricity supply problems. He said that these are the result of years of inadequate infrastructure planning and reiterated that families and businesses should not be made to pay the price for this failure.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista also explained that, despite the summer recess in parliamentary activity, the Partit Nazzjonalista will continue to be present among the people through its Parliamentary Group and its continuous work within communities. He said that the Party will continue putting forward proposals, holding the Government accountable for its promises and strengthening the process of internal reform so that it becomes increasingly open, modern and close to the people.
