In Balzan, PN Leader Alex Borg says a new Nationalist Government will provide five years free from income tax up to €50,000, increase stipends by 25%, and invest €5,000 in a private pension for young people under the age of 35

We want our young people to believe in our Malta again, and to believe that Malta believes in them. We want them to continue studying, working, and building their future in Malta. We want to be close to them at every step they take. We want to give them the opportunity to continue growing in their birth country, rather than leaving them alone in a country that is making them lose hope.

This was the message delivered by the Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista, Alex Borg, during an activity in Ħal Balzan with the participation of PN candidates contesting on the eighth district, where he said that a new Nationalist Government will give young people A Fresh Start through a practical and well-studied plan that directly affects their lives.

Alex Borg said that the PN has a plan built on four clear changes: more sustainable studying, a boost at the start of one’s career, long-term financial security, and a real role for young people in the leadership of the country.

Among the main proposals, a new Nationalist Government will provide a full exemption from income tax for five consecutive years, on income of up to €50,000 per year, for Maltese and Gozitan young people entering the world of work as employees or self-employed persons. These five years may be used when young people need them most: when they are saving for their first home, building a career, or starting a family.

The PN believes that young people do not want obstacles, but the opportunity to take control of their future. And they take control through education. That is why a Nationalist Government will also increase all student stipends by 25%, so that students have greater peace of mind and families are not left carrying the burden of education costs on their own.

Alex Borg also recalled the proposal through which a Nationalist Government will invest in health students, thereby strengthening both students and the healthcare sector. Because a Nationalist Government believes in health, and this is also clearly reflected in the electoral programme it has presented and in the hospitals it will build. Alex Borg said that this is credibility. The credibility of others in health disappeared with the €900 million handed over to foreigners for the hospitals.

Alex Borg also referred to the many innovative sectors through which a Nationalist Government wants to open wide the doors for our young people — AI, data, New Space, and the creative economy. This, the Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said, is an innovative Malta, an ambitious Malta, a Malta that wants to give A Fresh Start to our young people.

Another measure is the Youth Pension Kick Start, through which a new Nationalist Government will also think of young people’s future as they grow older, by depositing €1,000 per year for five years directly into a private pension account for every person under the age of 35 who chooses to set up a private pension scheme.

Alex Borg said that this is not policy about young people, but policy with young people and for young people. He stressed that on 30 May, the people will have the power in their hands to choose A Fresh Start for Malta and Gozo.

“On 30 May, you will have five seconds to vote. In those five seconds, you will have the future of our country in your hands. Use them wisely. Use them to give Malta and Gozo A Fresh Start.”

During the activity in Balzan, interventions were also made by the 10 PN candidates on the eighth electoral district.

Ivan Castillo said that last Monday, the PN presented an electoral programme with 1,000 proposals — including proposals on work and workers, in which the PN believes so strongly. One of these proposals is the strengthening of flexible working hours so that workers can spend more time with their loved ones. He recalled how, when the PN presented proposals on work-life balance, the Labour Party in government voted against them. Today, it is preaching about them. He said that the Labour Party wants to present itself as a competent government — but a government that left people without electricity in summer, sewage in the sea, and more traffic does not show much competence. He appealed for those who want A Fresh Start to vote for the Partit Nazzjonalista on 30 May.

Ludwig Cauchi spoke about how, as a parent, he worries about his children’s future, and said that many parents today are in the same situation. He said that many people speak to him about how their children are already saying that they want to leave Malta for better opportunities. He referred to how the Partit Nazzjonalista is offering an alternative that opens doors for our young people. He said that for everyone truly to have the chance to live in a better Malta, on Saturday 30 May our vote must go to all Partit Nazzjonalista candidates.

Edmund Cuschieri recalled how the Labour Party is saying that it is credible. But that word will not make people forget the mess created over recent years. He said that a government that hid its assets from the people cannot come before them and speak about credibility. A government that allowed the hospitals scandal is not credible. A government that went to Parliament and voted against an inquiry into the death of Jean Paul Sofia has no credibility. He said that anyone with even a little credibility should not hesitate to distance themselves from a Labour Party that is no longer recognisable and join the Partit Nazzjonalista. He mentioned several proposals through which the PN wants to give Malta A Fresh Start and encouraged those who have not yet decided what they will do on 30 May to give their vote to the Partit Nazzjonalista.

Adrian Delia said that the Minister for Finance told him he does not know how to use a calculator. Every time the PN comes out with a proposal, Labour rushes out to hold a press conference trying to tear it down. Clyde Caruana told us that €900 million was spent on three hospitals that never materialised. With those €900 million, we could have built a number of hospitals. But despite spending €900 million on three hospitals that were not delivered, Clyde Caruana told us that we received good value for money. He mentioned how Labour got it wrong on the money spent so far on Ta’ Qali, and on the Emergency Department tender awarded by direct order. The debt Malta made in 50 years, Clyde Caruana made in five. He said that the time has now come to take out our calculators, do the math, and vote for the Partit Nazzjonalista on 30 May.

Beppe Fenech Adami said that when Alex Borg asked him to contest the election again on behalf of the Partit Nazzjonalista, he had no doubt about what he had to do. He thanked all those who over the years supported him in serving in Parliament, and said that today he is once again asking for their trust to serve the country. He said that many of those standing behind the Partit Nazzjonalista are there because they follow the values that Eddie Fenech Adami always upheld. He recalled how the Partit Nazzjonalista is going before the people with proposals to improve their lives, especially when a person is going through the most difficult moments, such as the proposal for free cancer medicines. He appealed for us to do our duty on 30 May and vote so that, after 30 May, we will have a Nationalist Government led by Alex Borg, and together we will give our country A Fresh Start.

Angelo Micallef said that it is an honour for him to serve this locality of Ħal Balzan as Mayor. He said that just a few steps away there is the Ħal Balzan police station — a station that has long been closed. Across the district, residents of three out of five localities have to go to another village to find an open police station. He said that the proposals of the Partit Nazzjonalista to ensure that every locality has a police station, and that local wardens once again belong to the locality, make a great deal of sense. This is politics that improves people’s quality of life — politics centred on people. On 30 May, we have the opportunity to choose those who know where they want to go, with a strong Prime Minister who understands people and is close to them, and he appealed for the vote to go to the candidates of the Partit Nazzjonalista.

George Muscat thanked all those working so that the Partit Nazzjonalista can be the next government to lead Malta and Gozo. He said that, as a teacher, he sees students’ dreams while they are still sitting at their school desks. He said that, through his work, he wants to ensure that those young people fulfil their dreams in a country where they want to live. He paid tribute to young people who, despite the stress of studying, are attending and responding to the calls of the Partit Nazzjonalista. He said that, if he is given people’s trust in this campaign, he will also bring A Fresh Start to Parliament and be the people’s voice in the country’s highest institution.

David Pace Ross said that the people are being given an opportunity a year early, in an election that will give us the chance to choose a government that leads a country where the law applies equally to everyone without privileges; a government that creates a level playing field for all; a government that leads a country where you can succeed on your own merits, not according to who you know; a government that changes the direction of the country. We will be able to choose to hand the helm of our country to the Partit Nazzjonalista — a party with a vision, united and ready to implement what it is promising. Let us not lose the opportunity to give Malta and Gozo A Fresh Start.

Justin Schembri said that the energy being felt within the Partit Nazzjonalista is turning into hope every day, and that this energy and hope are coming from the Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista, Alex Borg. He said that four years ago, the Partit Nazzjonalista was also in this square speaking about a Labour Government that was deteriorating. Today, four years later, the Government has deteriorated further, but above all the Partit Nazzjonalista has strengthened, grown and become more solid over these four years, and today is presenting itself as the next government. He said that over the past four years he has served wholeheartedly and wants to continue serving the country. He spoke about education in our country and the PN’s proposals in this area — proposals that do not want to leave anyone behind. He said that only a few days remain before, on 30 May, we choose A Fresh Start for our country.

Julie Zahra said that she was honoured to have been part of the development of the Partit Nazzjonalista’s electoral programme. She said that the proposal to integrate arts and culture into education, instead of treating them as something separate from students’ studies, is the proposal closest to her heart. This goes together with the PORT project — a Cultural District including the National Hall and Malta Expo — a place where artists can exhibit their work and where students can receive training. She recalled the importance of organisations and clubs that work so hard to keep our country’s identity alive. She appealed for us, through our vote on 30 May, to give our support to the Partit Nazzjonalista so that we can deliver the change Malta and Gozo need.
