If Robert Abela fails to deliver what he promised the people before the election, he must explain to them why
The Partit Nazzjonalista Leader said that removing the energy subsidies would cause considerable hardship for families, young people, older persons, workers and businesses, and that this should not be considered. However, he said that any spending cuts must be explained to the people. If Robert Abela fails to deliver what he promised the electorate before the election, such as the Super Bonus pledge, then it is he who must provide an explanation.
During an interview on NET Television, PN Leader Alex Borg elaborates on the PN’s Omnibus Bill; says that the Independence celebrations at the Granaries are an opportunity for the younger generation; confirms that the pledge to appoint a second Deputy Leader will be honoured
If the Labour Government is unable to keep the promises it made to the people before the election in order to be elected to government, then Robert Abela, and no one else, must explain why.
During a live interview on NET TV with MaltaToday Executive Editor Kurt Sansone, Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg was asked about an article published in today’s newspaper in which Clyde Caruana indicates that, for the Government to retain the energy subsidies, it will have to cut spending elsewhere.
The Partit Nazzjonalista Leader said that removing the subsidies would cause considerable hardship for families, young people, older persons, workers and businesses, and that this should not be considered. However, he said that any spending cuts must be explained to the people. If Robert Abela fails to deliver what he promised the electorate before the election, such as the Super Bonus pledge, then it is he who must provide an explanation.

Alex Borg was also asked about the close relationship between businesspeople and politicians, in light of the trial by jury that concluded a few days ago.
The PN Leader said that, from Opposition, the Partit Nazzjonalista is continuing to push for this law to enter into force because the reality is that both parties currently depend on donations.
Asked about the Omnibus Bill, the package of legislation announced by the Partit Nazzjonalista this week during a meeting with social partners, NGOs and members of civil society, aimed at fully implementing the recommendations of the Public Inquiry into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, Alex Borg said that the Opposition would present the Bill in Parliament at the first available opportunity.
The Bill builds on what the Opposition presented in 2022 while also adding several recommendations based on developments in recent years.
Alex Borg said that some details of the Bill were outlined during the meeting, including anti-SLAPP legislation and legislation on unexplained wealth.

Kurt Sansone also asked about the Partit Nazzjonalista’s position on journalism. Alex Borg said that there is a need for an independent, self-regulating media body free from Government interference. He said that the board of this body must be independent and that the body must be able to ensure that journalists receive the protection and regulatory safeguards they need to work without fear.
Regarding the protests calling for justice following the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, Alex Borg said that he supports the demonstrations being organised by various organisations, including student organisations.
He said that this is the moment for all of us to speak out, without distinction.
Alex Borg also spoke about the Independence celebrations, which will return to the Floriana Granaries for the first time in eight years.
He said that they will give an entire generation the opportunity to celebrate the day on which our country gained its freedom, just a few steps away from where that historic event took place.

The PN Leader referred to his participation in yesterday’s Pride March and said that it was consistent with what he had always done over the years, demonstrating that this is a genuine conviction and not a move made out of convenience.
Finally, asked about the pledge to appoint a second PN Deputy Leader, Alex Borg said that not only would this pledge be honoured, but that there would also be a comprehensive revision of the Partit Nazzjonalista’s statute so that it reflects the present day and enables the party to become more dynamic and efficient, while preparing itself properly to become tomorrow’s government.
