PN Leader Alex Borg at a Mass Meeting in Sliema: “Change begins when the people decide that they deserve better; on 30 May, give the future a chance, give change a chance”

Be the authors of our country’s destiny. Change starts with you. It starts when you decide that you want better.

There are six days left. I need each and every one of you on this journey so that, on 30 May, you give the future a chance. Give change a chance. Give A Fresh Start to our Malta and Gozo.

In front of an energetic crowd during a Mass Meeting in Sliema, Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said that next Saturday, in five seconds, we will determine the next five years.

“You will decide the future of our country. Those five seconds can change Malta and Gozo. Be the authors of our country’s destiny. Do not let anyone else decide for you. Go out and vote. I will not get there alone, but with you by my side, we will surely get there. The hope of the people is great.”

During his passionate speech, Alex Borg addressed those who usually vote for the Labour Party and who today feel disappointed by the party they have always supported, telling them to take courage and choose change. He also addressed those who have drifted away from the Partit Nazzjonalista and who, over the years, voted for others. Alex Borg said that this too is democracy. He apologised to those who may have felt hurt by Nationalist Governments and told them that, just as they voted for change in the past, this is the moment for them once again to vote for change.

Alex Borg said that four weeks ago, an election was called one year early. Others thought they would catch the Partit Nazzjonalista off guard, but instead found a party that was ready, prepared, united, and with a clear vision and direction to give A Fresh Start to Malta and Gozo. Proposal after proposal, the Partit Nazzjonalista presented a clear plan to solve once and for all the problems created by others.

But what the Labour Party least expected, Alex Borg said, was the people’s response to every call made by the Partit Nazzjonalista.

The PN Leader said that every so often, a moment arrives when the word “change” stops being a slogan and becomes a responsibility — just as our fathers and mothers followed Eddie Fenech Adami so that Malta could become European, today we have the responsibility, each and every one of us together, to bring about the change that will give Malta A Fresh Start — not for the red or the blue, but for the white and red.

He said that the beautiful chapter we will write is entirely about people — about families who want more time, about young people who want a better future in Malta and Gozo, about the elderly who deserve a serene life, about workers who want work with dignity, and about businesses that want peace of mind.

Alex Borg said that the PN has been working, and in recent months and weeks the Partit Nazzjonalista has clearly shown that it is an alternative government — and all of this was built on what people themselves said.

“The thing that strengthens my heart most is the hope I see in you. The hope of A Fresh Start for you and for the country.”

The PN Leader said that the proposals put forward by the PN, shaped around what people want, will guarantee a better life with cheaper electricity bills, lower taxes, the removal of succession tax, new hospitals and new economic niches that will strengthen our country. A Nationalist Government will invest in young people and students, and in healthcare workers. It will invest fully in Gozo, as Nationalist Governments have always done. “Because the Gozitans know where they stand with the Partit Nazzjonalista. More investment in ports, in new vessels, in new roads. Gozitans will be a priority for the Partit Nazzjonalista. Who better than someone from Gozo, like them, can understand the needs of Gozitans?”

Alex Borg said that others have been saying for 13 years that they will solve the traffic problem. Four years ago, they promised us an underground metro. Today they are promising us Malta in Motion overground. To this day, in 13 years, they have done nothing but make promises.

But the Partit Nazzjonalista is coming before the people with a studied and detailed Mass Rapid Transport project, and in the first 100 days a Nationalist Government will start working on it so that, within the first five years, it completes its first and largest line. Meanwhile, others are telling us that they still need another five years of studies — meaning that if they are trusted again, they will leave the people stuck in traffic for another five years.

The PN Leader said that the choice is clear — either we keep waiting for another five years, or we give A Fresh Start a chance with a serious project.

He also spoke about the Partit Nazzjonalista’s plan for population, as well as for the protection of our identity, about a plan that cares for the elderly and a plan that cares for cancer patients.

Alex Borg said that the PN’s proposals showed what people-centred politics truly means, and that a Nationalist Government will always remain close to people.

He said that our country does not move forward with a calculator, but when the Maltese and Gozitan people feel safe and have peace of mind.

“Next Saturday, the choice will belong to the people. In those five seconds of voting, all the power will be in your hands. We politicians will have no power. It will be you who choose the direction you want to give our country. Do not remain silent. Be the authors of our country’s destiny. Be the ones to give A Fresh Start to our Malta and Gozo.”

At the beginning of his speech, the PN Leader saluted Robert Arrigo, Francis Zammit Dimech and Karl Gouder, as well as George Bonello Dupuis, Michael Refalo and Ċensu Tabone, who all served the country with so much love. He also saluted Ġorg Borg Olivier, who lived not far from Dingli Street, and who gave birth to Independent Malta.

During the same activity, Daniel Vella Fondacaro also spoke, saying that every country chooses its path, and next Saturday the Maltese people will choose the path for our country. He said that we have a duty to leave this country to those who come after us in a better state than we found it. He said that, when proposals are put forward during an electoral campaign, one must ask whether they can truly do good for people if we are still living in a country where division by colour persists. That is why, he said, Alex Borg’s message, which constantly speaks of the white and red, makes so much sense today. Daniel Vella Fondacaro said that this is a time of hope and unity. The time has come to move forward together. We must believe in our people — in young people and in the elderly. The time has come for all of us, young and old, to unite to give A Fresh Start to Malta and Gozo.

Partit Nazzjonalista Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione also addressed the Mass Meeting and said that the presence of such a beautiful crowd fills the Partit Nazzjonalista with courage, but also sends a message of courage to those following quietly from their homes. He said that this election was called one year early, and there is a reason for that — one that still has to emerge. But despite being called a year early, the PN was ready with a strong electoral programme, with a clear, serious and ambitious plan. He mentioned some of the many proposals of the Partit Nazzjonalista, designed for people and focused on people. And if the people place their trust in the PN next Saturday, the very next day they will find a Nationalist Government prepared to govern for everyone. He said that the choice before the people is whether to allow the Labour Party to continue where it left off — meaning that you remain waiting for hours at the hospital, remain stuck in traffic, and continue making sacrifices because of the ever-rising cost of living — or else choose A Fresh Start: for you, for your loved ones, and for our country. “We are not perfect, but we are determined. Do not let anyone scare you, discourage you or deceive you when they tell you that what they failed to do in 13 years, they will now do,” concluded Alex Perici Calascione, while appealing for everyone to keep working for change. Together we will get there. Together, with Alex Borg, we will write a new page for our country.
