You are the certificate of hope this country has for the next change for our Malta

PN Leader Alex Borg addresses a Mass Meeting in Mosta: “We want to make your dreams a reality, but to do this we must all work together so that, on 30 May, we can begin a new chapter for our country”

Mosta represents what the wind of change means. And today, you are the certificate of hope this country has. The hope for the change that will give A Fresh Start to the nation, to our Malta.

The Maltese and Gozitan people have a clear choice before them: either to continue moving in the same direction of instability, broken promises and a country that is losing its identity, or to choose A Fresh Start with a new Nationalist Government that listens, respects, and places people at the centre of every decision.

Addressing a Mass Meeting in Mosta, Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said that, during these three weeks of campaigning, the Partit Nazzjonalista has chosen to do one thing above all else: listen to people and respond to what they are telling it. He said that the PN’s campaign is not built on fear, hatred or propaganda, but on people’s lives, their dreams, and the future of their children.

He said that, in recent weeks, he has listened to young people who are losing hope that they will ever be able to buy their own home; to elderly people who are struggling under the weight of the cost of living; and to self-employed people who feel forgotten. Throughout these three weeks of campaigning, the PN has shown all these different groups the true vision it has for each and every one of them. He said the Partit Nazzjonalista has no interest in a campaign of mudslinging and negativity, because that brings nothing to people. Instead, it is leading a campaign that is focused solely on people and on targeted proposals to improve their lives.

Despite this, others are running a campaign of mudslinging and attacks. Here, Alex Borg saluted Conrad Borg Manchè who, in recent weeks, took a courageous step and joined the Partit Nazzjonalista, and who, because of this, has been subjected to a coordinated attack by Labour. Alex Borg said this will intimidate no one, and that every attack will find the whole Partit Nazzjonalista standing strong in defence of those who only want what is good for our country.

The PN Leader said that a Nationalist Government wants to give people a better future, and will do so through an electoral programme that is already clearly showing the way forward, including through new niches such as the Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub.

“While others are lost in a campaign of darkness and fear, we are working for you because we want to make your dreams a reality.”

Alex Borg said that a Nationalist Government led by him will build on the vision that Nationalist Governments have always had, by generating new economic niches from which every Maltese and Gozitan can benefit.

He mentioned some of the PN’s proposals announced so far:

  • From 1 January next year, electricity bills will go down by an average of 30%
  • More money in your pocket through lower taxes for you
  • Succession tax will no longer exist. You will not pay a cent in tax when you inherit. A Nationalist Government will leave thousands of euro in your pocket
  • Young people’s first five years of work will be tax-free
  • Pensions will increase so that elderly people have more money in hand
  • A Nationalist Government will help young people and first-time buyers by providing the 10% deposit, up to a maximum of €45,000, and paying half the interest for the first 10 years
  • A Nationalist Government will strengthen Maltese identity through a serious vision for population, after others worked without a plan

Alex Borg said that a Nationalist Government wants to work with a serious population plan, especially now that even those who operated without vision on population are telling us that, unless we change the economic model, within a few years half of Malta’s population will be foreign.

The Partit Nazzjonalista Leader said that today we are in an early election because Robert Abela failed to govern for five years. He failed to unite the nation and also failed to unite his parliamentary group, and therefore decided to think only of himself. This is the only reason why our country is now heading to an election one year early, with all the instability this brings.

He referred to how, in recent days, Robert Abela suddenly started speaking about a wellbeing index: the same person who suffocated Malta, filled our country with traffic, and burdened services with pressures they cannot cope with, is now speaking about a wellbeing index. Alex Borg recalled how, four years ago, Labour filled Malta with billboards saying it would spend €700 million on open spaces, including in Cospicua and Senglea, in St Anne Street, in Ħamrun, in Rabat, Gozo, above the Santa Venera tunnels, in Birkirkara and in San Ġwann. Robert Abela delivered none of this, and the open spaces remained only on the billboards.

The PN Leader said that a new Nationalist Government will invest in open spaces across the country. “Hold me accountable for this word. Because my word is a contract with you. And our open spaces will not be covered in gravel, but in grass and trees.”

He said that the Partit Nazzjonalista looks at the people and sees persons, not numbers; persons, not statistics; and that the PN’s vision is one that wants every Maltese and Gozitan to succeed.

“Our promise is clear. We want to always be with you. But we cannot do it alone. With you, together, we will get there. We are the underdogs, but with your strength we can do good for this country of ours. This is your moment. Our country is calling on us to give A Fresh Start to this nation.”

During the same Mass Meeting, Michael Psaila Debono also spoke, delivering a message on behalf of a generation of young people who, one could say, grew up knowing only a Labour Government, but who on 30 May have the strength to change the history of our country. He said that Labour offers vouchers and pre-election cheques, while the Partit Nazzjonalista offers a future, hope and vision. He stressed that young people do not want a politics of quick fixes, but a politics that thinks about them in the long term: when they study, when they enter the world of work, when they try to buy a home, and when they build a family in Malta.

Michael Psaila Debono said that Nationalist Governments left behind a legacy of vision and courage: an independent Malta, a European Malta, and new economic sectors such as pharmaceuticals, iGaming, aviation and financial services. He said that the Partit Nazzjonalista, under the leadership of Alex Borg, is once again looking ahead with new economic niches such as the maritime sector. He made a particular appeal to those who have always voted Labour to put Malta first on 30 May and choose a better future for themselves and for their children.

Gabriella Farrugia, a mother and career woman, also addressed the Mass Meeting, saying that the balance between work, family and quality of life can no longer be considered a luxury, but an essential need. She said that many parents, workers and young people today feel exhausted, caught between work, family and the little free time they have left. She stressed that a strong country begins with strong families, and that work should provide dignity and opportunity, but life cannot become only work.

Gabriella Farrugia praised the Partit Nazzjonalista’s proposals in favour of families, including the extension of maternity leave to six months on full pay, the increase in paternity leave, more parental leave, special leave when children are sick, more remote working and flexible hours, assistance for grandparents who help care for their grandchildren, the removal of tax on the first €10,000 earned from overtime or part-time work, and more support for self-employed workers. She said that these proposals are an investment in the quality of life of Maltese and Gozitan families, so that people do not only work, but live well.

The Partit Nazzjonalista will be presenting its electoral programme for the 30 May election tomorrow, Monday, during a General Council meeting to be held at Dar Ċentrali at 6.30pm.
