Leader of the Opposition and the Partit Nazzjonalista

Dr Alex Borg was born on 10 July 1995 in Rabat, Gozo. He is a lawyer. He was first elected to the Maltese Parliament in 2022, obtaining the highest number of votes among the Party’s candidates, second only to the Party leader at the time. He served for three years as Shadow Minister for Gozo and was also a member of the Parliamentary Committees for Gozo and for Foreign Affairs.

Borg grew up in Nadur and was educated at Bishop’s Conservatory, Gozo College, and Sir M.A. Refalo Sixth Form. In 2019, he graduated in Law and began practicing as a lawyer. That same year, he was elected to the Executive of the Nationalist Party Youth Movement (MŻPN) and shortly after to the Executive Committee of the Nationalist Party.

He believes in a politics based on direct contact, constantly maintaining that politicians should remain close to the people. He describes himself as a supporter of a strong and competitive economy, while also emphasizing the importance of robust social services such as free healthcare and education.

In June 2025, following the resignation of Nationalist Party leader Dr Bernard Grech, Borg expressed his interest in the role and contested the Party’s leadership election. He was elected Leader of the Nationalist Party on 6 September 2025 and was sworn in as Leader of the Opposition four days later, on 10 September.
