In Naxxar, PN Leader Alex Borg reveals how the Government instructed the NSO to keep debt statistics hidden, while the European Central Bank exposed Robert Abela and Clyde Caruana for borrowing one billion euro in just one month
I am proud that we have managed to come this far together. We have done a great deal. We have worked hard. We have put forward many proposals. We have a strong team of candidates, and I am proud to call them colleagues. Together, let us give our country A Fresh Start.”
During a political activity in Naxxar, where the PN candidates on the 10th district were presented, Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg made a clear commitment that the incinerator will not be built near Naxxar because people’s health comes first.
He stated that we have seen a Labour Government that uses the environment only for PR, while all we have had are promises that were never fulfilled. For every €1 Project Green spends on trees, it spends more than €2 on PR and advertising. This Government’s certificate on the environment and open spaces is the gravel at Ta’ Qali.
Alex Borg said that a Nationalist Government has bound itself to ensure that there will be investment in an open space in every locality. And this is a promise it will fulfil.

The PN Leader referred to the Aesthetic Malta plan — a plan to beautify Malta by, among other things, removing all dangling wires from façades and placing them underground. He also spoke about development and the urgent need for a serious plan that also protects people from tragedies. He referred to the PN’s pledge that any change to ODZ land would require a two-thirds vote in Parliament.
He spoke about the economy and said that a strong economy does not automatically mean that people are living better. That is why, in its electoral programme, the PN has addressed issues that may not necessarily translate into money, but which improve people’s quality of life. Here, he also mentioned the importance of investment in sport, which is so crucial for a healthier life, and referred to proposals that would allow athletes to continue progressing in their sport.
Alex Borg spoke about how the Government and the Minister for Finance gave instructions to the government’s statistics office, the NSO, not to publish the statistics that are usually released at the end of every month and which show the state of government debt, under the pretext of observing the day of reflection on the eve of the election. This is something that has never happened before, and the decision was even confirmed by the NSO itself in a statement.
But Robert Abela, the PN Leader said, thought people would forget, because four years ago the NSO published the same statistics precisely on the day before the election. The PN Leader revealed how the European Central Bank — whose hands are not tied by Robert Abela — exposed in the last hours how government borrowing at the end of April reached €12 billion and that, in the last month alone, between March and April, the Labour Government borrowed a record one billion euro.
No wonder Robert Abela wants to hide the statistics, Alex Borg said. Robert Abela — who speaks so much about credibility — and Minister Clyde Caruana — who grew the economy through the importation of workers — have indebted us by one thousand million euro in one month. A debt that will continue to fall on the Maltese worker, the self-employed and business owners.

The PN Leader recalled how Clyde Caruana is the same Minister who is telling us that, in a few years’ time, our country’s population will reach 800,000, yet he has come up with no solution to the problem he himself created.
This, said Alex Borg, is credibility. This is the difference between what the Labour Party is offering and the clear vision of the Partit Nazzjonalista, which is coming before the people with a clear plan for the population and for the future of our country.
“That is the choice you have before you on Saturday. Between those who created the problems and those who are coming before you with a plan so that you can live better. Together, on Saturday, let us give Malta and Gozo A Fresh Start.”
During this activity, the 16 Partit Nazzjonalista candidates contesting the 10th district also delivered their interventions.
In her speech, Janice Abela Chetcuti referred to politics as the moment that makes her children proud of their country. She said the Partit Nazzjonalista has been a proactive Opposition for years and did not start working four weeks ago; it has been working for people as well as for animals. She said the enthusiasm brought by Alex Borg has continued to encourage PN candidates to keep working to give the Maltese and Gozitan people A Fresh Start.

Joe Aquilina thanked the Partit Nazzjonalista for the trust it has shown in him and thanked all the candidates for their work. He said Alex Borg is inspiring many people and young people and is offering the country new hope. He stated that he understood that, in order to practise good politics, one must first and foremost listen to and understand people. Throughout the campaign, he heard messages of courage, as well as from people who are struggling, and that is why he is proud to have chosen to try to serve. If people understand that their vote can make a difference, it will be possible to give Malta A Fresh Start.
Graziella Attard Previ said that she was brought up and has always lived in the localities of the 10th district, and therefore understands well the challenges faced by residents. Among other things, she mentioned unplanned development, population growth and traffic. She stated that the Partit Nazzjonalista in Government will once again give priority to localities. She said that during her time serving in the Maltese Parliament, she worked hard for social justice, including work on work-life balance. She urged everyone to vote on Saturday so that Alex Borg and the PN can give the country A Fresh Start.

Graham Bencini said that the last two days have confirmed that the Labour Government is a government of concealment. Yesterday, Robert Abela was exposed as having had in his possession a report showing that the mass transport project proposed by the PN can be completed in five years. Today, we discover that the Government held back the statistics that were supposed to be published this week on Government finances. All this confirms how much the Labour Government wants to hide from people. On the other side, there is a Partit Nazzjonalista with a fresh vision and a young leader with clear direction. He said that in recent years he has worked hard from Parliament and promised that, if entrusted by the people, he will work with more experience and more energy than ever before.
David Bonello said that others claim that the PN has nothing to offer, but among the PN candidates there is an excellent choice of professionals. He said that those who want to claim that the PN has nothing to offer spent an entire campaign attacking the PN’s proposals and remained without a vision themselves. He stated that despite Labour’s attacks on the PN’s strong proposals, he is certain that people are understanding how these proposals can give them A Fresh Start. He urged everyone to do their duty on Saturday and vote for the PN candidates.

Eve Borg Bonello stated that there were those who thought they would catch the Partit Nazzjonalista unprepared when they called an early election. But in reality, they found a Partit Nazzjonalista prepared and ready to lead this country forward. She stated that the five seconds we have to vote on Saturday can give Malta a new direction. She said that the four years she served in Parliament were four years of work, and stated that she wishes to continue serving the country. She said that the Maltese have always understood that, despite being small, we can achieve a great deal, and stated that on Saturday we can give Malta A Fresh Start.
Conrad Borg Manché thanked everyone for the welcome he was given within the Partit Nazzjonalista. He said that the 10th district makes a very significant contribution to the country’s economy, yet despite this, in the last 13 years there has been almost no investment in this district. He said that residents of these localities face greater challenges than those in other villages, even in the most basic things such as pavements. He said our country needs change and appealed for everyone on Saturday to place their trust in the Partit Nazzjonalista, led by Alex Borg, so that together we can give Malta and Gozo A Fresh Start.

In his speech, Albert Buttigieg recalled how, after serving as Mayor of St Julian’s, he served in Parliament in recent years. He said he has always believed in politics for the many and not for the few. He said he believes that the common good is built on good governance — something that has gone badly wrong in recent years. That is why the PN has several proposals in this area, including requiring Members of Parliament to declare their assets, imposing an obligation to declare the source of their wealth, and implementing the recommendations of the public inquiries into Daphne Caruana Galizia and Jean Paul Sofia. He appealed for a vote for the Partit Nazzjonalista on Saturday.
Errol Cutajar saluted those who cannot attend activities because they work with the Government, but who are closely following what the Partit Nazzjonalista is proposing. He said that in one home he visited, he met a young man who told him that politicians think young people do not address their needs. When asked what he was studying, the young man replied that he was studying to work in the health sector. Errol Cutajar told him that a Nationalist Government is thinking of those studying in health, and of all students. He said we must have confidence that after Saturday we will have a new government led by Alex Borg.

Graziella Galea stated that it had been a privilege for her to serve the people of this district over the past four years. She said that this district has produced a number of people who made a valuable contribution to our country — Ċensu Tabone, George Bonello Dupuis, Michael Refalo, Robert Arrigo and Karl Gouder. She also saluted Louis Deguara and Mayor Chris Deguara. She said that in recent years she has worked hard in inclusion and volunteering — two sectors close to the PN’s heart — as well as in the consumer sector, where she mentioned the PN’s work to stop the theft of eco-reduction from electricity bills. She appealed for support for the PN to give Malta A Fresh Start.
Ray Gatt said that people’s energy fills him with courage. He said the decision to serve came because he felt that our country needs change. He stated that, as a PN candidate, he sees many similarities between his profession in health and politics. Both involve contact with people, listening and understanding, and offering a solution. He said that much remains to be done in our country’s health sector, and that this was also why he accepted Alex Borg’s invitation to become a PN candidate. He mentioned a number of proposals being put forward by the PN in its electoral programme. He said people deserve to live in a healthier country and appealed for us to keep convincing those who are still undecided so that, on Saturday, we can give our country and our people a better future.

Marilena Gauci said that beyond every survey and every number, there are people. People with their dreams, their needs and their aspirations. She said that the many proposals of the Partit Nazzjonalista in every sector will improve the quality of life of the Maltese and Gozitan people — whether in education, health, the economy, for families, the elderly, young people and workers. She thanked everyone supporting her and supporting the Partit Nazzjonalista, and said that if entrusted by the people, she will work with all her strength for them.
Joe Giglio described this election as fundamental for our country. The choice before us is whether to continue as we have been in recent years, with an economy without a plan based only on the importation of workers, which has broken the infrastructure and brought so many difficulties, or to change direction with an economy that creates wealth without breaking the country and the people, with new economic niches that do not increase the burdens on people. He stated that the PN has an extraordinary track record in creating economic niches that generated great wealth, and that a new government led by Alex Borg will once again create wealth for everyone.

Noel Muscat said that the hour of trial has arrived and that this Saturday we must choose whether to remain stuck where we are without direction, or choose to move forward with a new government led by Alex Borg that will give A Fresh Start. He said that the Partit Nazzjonalista’s electoral programme offers a solid plan that is shaping a stronger and more sustainable future for our country and our people. He said that the localities of the 9th and 10th districts have been abandoned by this Government and deserve much better. He concluded by saying that he is coming before people to serve and to be part of a government that wants to give the country a new direction.
Mark Anthony Sammut referred to the PN’s plan for transport and to begin solving the scourge of traffic in the first five years. He said that, during the presentation, the details of the project were given, and Robert Abela immediately said it was impossible. This was Labour’s reaction to every PN proposal. But now a report has revealed that Robert Abela knew this project could be done. This shows the difference between Alex Borg, who sowed hope and positivity, and Robert Abela, who sowed fear and negativity. He said that those who claimed that the PN had nothing to offer left an empty podium instead of debating Robert Abela. He said the choice is between those who want to deliver and those who want to keep everything as it is. We are ready. All that remains is for you, on Saturday, to join us in giving Malta A Fresh Start.

Rachel Williams said that governance is not a buzzword, but a necessity for each and every one of us to receive what we deserve. The Partit Nazzjonalista is working to present clean politics that is accountable to the people. She said that Alex Borg will lead a government that ensures every politician gives a clear account to the people of their assets and of the use of all public funds, so that people know exactly how their money is being used. This, she said, is the contract that PN candidates are making with the people on studied proposals. She appealed for support for the candidates of the Partit Nazzjonalista so that, led by Alex Borg, they can give Malta A Fresh Start.
The PN’s Nifs Ġdid electoral campaign comes to an end tomorrow, Thursday, with the Mass Festival at the Pembroke Park & Ride.
