Population and immigration are among the most sensitive issues for our country, because they directly affect our lives. The Partit Nazzjonalista has a clear plan and serious proposals that provide a clear direction for where it wants to take the country, without economic shocks.

During a political activity in Paola with the PN candidates on the Fourth District, PN Leader Alex Borg said that the Partit Nazzjonalista wants to address, with seriousness and responsibility — without extremism and without fear of telling the truth — what is worrying many people. This means looking at both sides of the coin: the needs of employers and how we will strengthen the country’s infrastructure so that we can live comfortably in our country.

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that those who created the problem are now running away from offering a solution and are only resorting to negativity. But the Partit Nazzjonalista has a clear vision that will give the country a new direction if, on 30 May, it is entrusted with the people’s confidence.

He recalled that in 2013 Malta had a population of around 420,000 people, with around 20,000 foreign nationals, while today the population has exceeded 570,000 people, with around 170,000 foreign nationals living in Malta. He said that this rapid pace is placing great pressure on people’s quality of life.

Alex Borg stated that the Partit Nazzjonalista believes in a growing economy, but one that grows sustainably. This is why a new Nationalist Government will reduce bureaucracy in the work and residence permit system through one-stop shops for citizens, employers and Third Country Nationals.

He also said that a new Nationalist Government will create a National Authority responsible for population levels, with a Labour Market Research Study, a Malta Population Levels Plan and a National Capacity Plan, so that the country knows what the labour market needs, how much it can sustain, and whether the infrastructure can cope.

Alex Borg said that persons from third countries who work in direct contact with the public will be required to take a basic course in Maltese within one year, because our language is also an important part of our identity.

On security, Alex Borg said that a new Nationalist Government will create a Joint Task Force for National Security between the Armed Forces and the Police, invest further in security in Gozo, and reform the Immigration Appeals Board so that it is more independent and credible.

Alex Borg said that this is not politics of fear, but politics of responsibility, so that Malta can once again find balance between the economy and quality of life, between development and identity, and between progress and peace of mind.

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that the PN is focused on proposals that will change people’s lives for the better, while others are focused on criticising and then copying. Others, Alex Borg said, are focused on negative politics. But the Partit Nazzjonalista is ready with a strong team of candidates and, with the strength of the people, will give the country A Fresh Start.

During this activity, interventions were also made by the candidates contesting the general election of 30 May on behalf of the Partit Nazzjonalista on this district, which is made up of Fgura, Gudja, Paola, Santa Luċija and Ħal Tarxien.

Bernice Bonello thanked all those who attended and those who, even from their homes, are giving their support to the Partit Nazzjonalista throughout this electoral campaign. She said that the Government, which is now promising everything, had 13 years to deliver what it is talking about today, but failed to do so. On the other hand, the Partit Nazzjonalista is presenting strong proposals, including those it announced for first-time buyers. She said that these proposals will give A Fresh Start to the many young people and others who have long been trying to buy their own home. She said that even though the road is long, together we can give people A Fresh Start.

Duncan Borg Myatt said that for the country to move forward, what matters first and foremost is the red and white. He said that when he graduated from university 23 years ago, he had many expectations for his future. Twenty-three years ago, the Partit Nazzjonalista presented a vision of a European Malta. That was a vision which even those who criticised it at the time now say was a good one. Today, just as it did then, the Partit Nazzjonalista is once again offering a vision for our country, and Alex Borg is offering direction for the country’s future. He referred to the PN’s proposal to remove stamp duty and said that this proposal has touched people positively. He said that, with a Nationalist Government, the people — young and old — will get A Fresh Start.

Stefan Caruana said that the people of the Fourth District have always supported the Partit Nazzjonalista. He said that the basis of the Partit Nazzjonalista’s proposals is built on education — such as the proposal for young people studying health-related subjects to receive a stipend equivalent to the minimum wage, and for all students to receive a 25% increase in their stipends. As an art teacher, he said that the Partit Nazzjonalista’s PORT – Distrett Kulturali project will give artists more opportunities to build new careers. This is the moment for young people, for the elderly, for families, so that together, on 30 May, we give the country A Fresh Start.

Michael Piccinino said that the Partit Nazzjonalista did not start presenting its proposals during the campaign. The PN has been talking for months and years about solutions to the cost of living, health, and work-life balance, because the PN believes serious solutions are needed. Others start talking about solutions on the eve of an election, as they did in the last three elections when they told us they would solve traffic. Today, these same people are coming before the people with another project which Robert Abela’s Finance Minister said he would not sign off on. He said that it is true that the road is uphill, but with everyone’s help the Partit Nazzjonalista can offer A Fresh Start to Malta and Gozo, and on 1 June we will see Alex Borg walking up the steps of Castille.

Mark Anthony Sammut said that the attendance in Paola shows that the Partit Nazzjonalista is also the party of the south of Malta. He said that the Fourth District has always had politicians of substance, and that today he is determined that in this election the Partit Nazzjonalista will once again elect two MPs from this district. He said it was a privilege for him to serve in Parliament and said that when Alex Borg entrusted him with the energy portfolio, he told him that he wanted to bring about a revolution in this sector. And today, the Partit Nazzjonalista is presenting that revolution, which will reduce bills for families, farmers, livestock breeders and voluntary organisations. The Partit Nazzjonalista is ready with proposals in every sector so that, after the election on 30 May, it can move this country forward.

The next political activity of the Partit Nazzjonalista will be held tomorrow at 6.30pm at Ġnien Monsinjur Victor Grech, in Swieqi, with the participation of PN Leader Alex Borg.
