The Labour Government had no population plan before the election and still has no plan today

If the Labour Government does not even know what our population will be next year, how can it speak about Vision 2050?

This week, Robert Abela completely contradicted, and came close to ridiculing, what Clyde Caruana had said three years ago, when he claimed that Malta’s population would rise to 800,000 by 2040.

Yet in recent hours, when asked whether he still believes that our population will grow in this way, Clyde Caruana confirmed that this remains his view.

Once again, we have a Government that does not know where it is going.

Until just a few months ago, Robert Abela and his Government had no plan for Malta’s population.

Nothing has changed today.

In reply to Parliamentary Question 1159, tabled by Partit Nazzjonalista MP Michael Piccinino, asking how much the Government expects the population to increase next year and in 2028, 2029 and 2030, the Government said it does not have these figures.

If the Labour Government does not even know what our population will be next year, how can it speak about Vision 2050?

If it has no idea whether the population will grow or shrink, how can it plan a mass transport system for the next 15 years?

This is a Government that had no plan for our country before the election and still has no plan today.

It appears that Vision 2050 was nothing more than another public relations exercise, once again paid for by the people, aimed at portraying Robert Abela and his colleagues as though they know what they are doing.

Today, it is clear that they neither know where they are going nor where they are taking our country.
