Strengthening workers and businesses by strengthening those who defend their rights

A new Nationalist Government will strengthen workers and businesses by strengthening social dialogue in our country through two concrete measures that will give social partners more tools and more resources.

PN Leader Alex Borg during a visit to UĦM Voice of the Workers: A new Nationalist Government will be a Government that listens, consults and works hand in hand with workers, unions, businesses and all social partners

A new Nationalist Government will strengthen workers and businesses by strengthening social dialogue in our country through two concrete measures that will give social partners more tools and more resources:

1. Increasing financial assistance and resources for social partners

A new Nationalist Government commits itself to increasing financial assistance to social partners to ensure that these organisations have more resources to continue carrying out their work in a professional, independent and effective manner. This means more support for those organisations which, every day, represent workers, businesses and important sectors of society around the table of social dialogue.

2. Establishing a fund to help develop solutions for the labour market

A new Nationalist Government will establish a dedicated fund for research, policy analysis and the development of concrete solutions for the labour market. This fund will help modernise Malta’s labour market so that our country remains more competitive and productive, while addressing challenges such as the shortage of skilled workers, low productivity, the need for more skills, work-life balance, and technological changes affecting both businesses and workers.

These measures were announced by Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg during a visit to UĦM Voice of the Workers in Floriana, where he said that dialogue with the social partners is crucial for a country that wants a strong economy, a modern labour market and a better quality of life for Maltese and Gozitan families.

Alex Borg thanked UĦM Voice of the Workers for the significant work it carries out every day to represent the voice of workers around the table, defend their rights, and look after workers and their families. He said that UĦM’s contribution to Malta has been crucial and instrumental, not only in safeguarding workers’ rights, but also in building modern Maltese society and strengthening the social fabric of our country.

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that organisations such as UĦM Voice of the Workers are a pillar of democracy, social and economic stability, social dialogue and economic development. He recalled that many of the rights and protections workers enjoy today are the result of the work, perseverance and commitment of unions over the years.

Alex Borg said that a strong economy is measured by people’s quality of life and by how they are living every day.

He said that, despite the Government’s fanfare, Malta is today facing serious economic challenges, including a shortage of skilled workers, excessive bureaucracy, low productivity, higher costs linked to technology and innovation, and growing challenges in achieving a proper balance between work and family life.

These problems, Alex Borg said, cannot be solved by Government alone, nor by the social partners alone. They can only be solved if the country works together, with clear direction and a shared love for Malta and for a better future for the generations to come.

That is why a new Nationalist Government will work hand in hand with social partners, assist organisations in their work, reduce unnecessary pressures, and create an environment where workers, families and businesses can succeed together.

Alex Borg said that these measures form part of a broader vision for serious social dialogue that delivers results which strengthen investment, improve productivity, improve working conditions and build a more sustainable economy.

He stressed that with him as Prime Minister, Government policy would not be built only from the Office of the Prime Minister but together with workers, businesses, unions and social partners. Malta needs clear direction, where everyone pulls the same rope in the same direction, built on collaboration rather than confrontation.

This is the Fresh Start that the Partit Nazzjonalista wants to deliver for the country: politics built on respect, dialogue, stability and national unity, so that progress in Malta is felt by everyone – workers, businesses, social partners and Maltese and Gozitan families.

Also present for the meeting with UĦM Voice of the Workers were Partit Nazzjonalista candidates Joe Aquilina, Ivan Castillo and Errol Cutajar.
