In Żejtun, PN Leader Alex Borg announces two new proposals in favour of NGOs and voluntary organisations

The country is calling us once again to give A Fresh Start to the Maltese and Gozitan people.
Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said this while addressing a political activity in Żejtun together with the Partit Nazzjonalista candidates on the Third District.
During his speech, he recalled that a national debate between himself and Robert Abela was meant to take place this evening, but Robert Abela chose to run away from the debate because he is afraid to subject himself to people’s scrutiny. Debate, Alex Borg said, is one of the most basic exercises of democracy, because it gives people the chance to listen, compare and make their choice in an informed way.

Alex Borg said the beginning of the campaign has shown a Partit Nazzjonalista ready to lead this country: with proposals for better healthcare, lower bills and a cleaner environment, for tax reform, for the removal of stamp duty on property, for new niches in Data, AI, New Space and the Creative Economy, and for a project that will add value to Malta in the maritime sector — the Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub.
“People are following us. But even the Labour Party is following us, because it has spent an entire campaign trying to copy our proposals.”
Here, Alex Borg spoke about how Robert Abela tried to throw mud at him precisely in relation to this proposal. He said he will not allow anyone to tarnish his reputation or weaken the credibility of the proposals the Partit Nazzjonalista is putting forward for the country’s future. The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that Robert Abela claimed he spoke to a smuggler about this proposal, made serious allegations, but then failed to do what he should have done – he did not go to the Police with the information.
“In the past, we had Prime Ministers who consulted criminals on major projects. I consult professionals and the Maltese and Gozitan people.”

During the same activity, Alex Borg continued to announce more Partit Nazzjonalista proposals – this time, two proposals in favour of NGOs and voluntary organisations.
Through the first proposal, registered NGOs and voluntary organisations will receive an annual refund of 100% of the VAT they pay on goods and services directly linked to their mission.
Through the second proposal, a new Nationalist Government will extend the principle of purchasing government property to eligible NGOs which, for many years, have operated from properties rented from the Government and invested their limited resources to maintain and adapt these premises for public benefit.
Alex Borg said these are proposals that give the much-needed Fresh Start to volunteering, communities and all those who work wholeheartedly for the good of others.
He said these join the long list of proposals already launched by the Partit Nazzjonalista, all of which have one aim — to give A Fresh Start to everyone.
The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista thanked all those who served the party and the country on this district, while appealing to those present and to everyone who wants to give A Fresh Start to our country to continue spreading the Partit Nazzjonalista’s message, and to speak to families, neighbours, those who have lost hope and those who will be voting for the first time.
“The country is calling us. On 30 May, we must answer. We must give A Fresh Start to our country.”
During this activity, Partit Nazzjonalista candidates on the Third District, which includes Żejtun, Ħal Għaxaq, Marsaskala and Marsaxlokk, also delivered their interventions.

Janice Abela Chetcuti spoke about the beauty of Żejtun and its community. She said the beautiful values she took from Żejtun shaped her into the person she is today. She spoke about her work in Parliament, particularly her work focused on animals. She said the Partit Nazzjonalista has always had animals at heart; 16 years ago, it created the animal hospital, created the animal directorate and continued working even from Opposition. She recalled Alex Borg’s pledge that a Nationalist Government will reopen the animal hospital closed by a Labour Government, and said this is only the beginning, because a Nationalist Government will continue shaping policy that protects all animals.

Andrew Agius said the burdens we carry every day — from the environment to the cost of living and much more — have led a number of Maltese people to leave our shores and move to other countries. He mentioned how proposals such as those being announced by the Partit Nazzjonalista, including investment in new niches such as Data, AI and New Space, should once again open wide the opportunities for our young people and give them a better future in our country. He said these sectors increase the value of our country without continuing to add burdens on the people and on the country. Andrew Agius said it will be a Nationalist Government that will give A Fresh Start to Malta, where we want to continue growing and living.

John Baptist Camilleri said he has served for 30 years on the Marsaskala Local Council and is now working so that he can also serve the country and the district. He spoke about the Partit Nazzjonalista’s proposals — proposals that show a party prepared to govern and that are filling him with courage. Among others, he praised the Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub project, through which a Nationalist Government will remove the tanker from Marsaxlokk Bay. He said this will improve the quality of life not only for those who live in the surrounding area, but also for those who visit these localities. He said he is giving his energy so that, together, we will see a Nationalist Government lead Malta.

Miriana Calleja Testaferrata de Noto said she grew up in Żejtun and, as a young person, wants to offer her service to the country. She said young people should not just be part of the discussion, but should be at the centre of politics. She praised the proposals being launched by the Partit Nazzjonalista and said it is clear that the PN is shaping policy around people. She spoke about the proposal for investment in the Creative Economy and said the PN believes an artist can use their talent for entertainment while also earning their livelihood from their creativity. She said this is one measure from a whole list of proposals that will give A Fresh Start to our country.

Errol Cutajar said that, since the Partit Nazzjonalista announced that, in government, it would remove stamp duty on inherited property, many people have spoken to him. He said this proposal has been very well received, as have all the PN’s proposals. He said the proposals presented by the Partit Nazzjonalista in the first days of the campaign are addressing people’s realities. Errol Cutajar also said the PN is working with all its energy to give our country a government that thinks of people, but for this to happen, people must also do their part and, on 30 May, vote strongly for the Partit Nazzjonalista.

Ray Gatt said the Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista managed to convince him to be a candidate even when he was determined to say no. He said this strengthens his belief that Alex Borg will continue to convince many people. He spoke about the huge pressure facing the healthcare service in our country, including at Mater Dei Hospital. This is due to a lack of planning by the Labour Government. He spoke about the major pressure on workers, delays for patients and other problems currently existing in the service. He said the Partit Nazzjonalista’s healthcare proposals will give A Fresh Start to healthcare, services, workers and patients.

Leone Sciberras said the Partit Nazzjonalista’s vision for Malta to join the European Union changed the direction of our country, and that with a vote for the Partit Nazzjonalista on 30 May, people will certainly change the country’s direction once again. He said this change will translate into lower electricity bills for people, more units allocated for eco-reduction for people living alone, and many other proposals that will improve people’s lives. He said that, just as our country called us in the past, today it is calling us again to give A Fresh Start to young people, the elderly and people with disabilities, and he appealed to everyone to vote for the Partit Nazzjonalista.

Stephen Spiteri said the enthusiasm of the people gives him great courage. He spoke about the long-term vision that the Partit Nazzjonalista has always had in healthcare: with Mater Dei Hospital, the Oncology Centre, the POYC service and much more. Today, the PN is once again putting forward proposals that will give people the healthcare sector they deserve. He spoke about the pledge being made by the Partit Nazzjonalista that cancer treatment will be given free of charge on the Government formulary, and said that there can be no compromise when it comes to illness. He stressed that no one should end up begging for the medicines they need to live. He concluded by saying that the team of candidates on the Third District is working together with one aim — that after 30 May, we will see Alex Borg as Prime Minister of our country.
