Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg puts forward 10 proposals as part of the plan of a new Nationalist Government for people’s healthcare

“Tonight I will sign a contract with the Maltese and Gozitan people. A Nationalist Government will build new hospitals both in Malta and in Gozo. It will construct a completely new hospital in the North of Malta, transform the Paola Hub into a new hospital, upgrade Mater Dei Hospital to meet people’s needs, and build the new general hospital that Gozitans have long been promised.”

During a Mass Rally in front of the Partit Nazzjonalista’s Dar Ċentrali, Alex Borg said that these are only part of a wider list of proposals to ensure that people have an efficient healthcare system that serves them better.

In his speech, the PN Leader outlined ten proposals for the health sector.

In addition to new hospitals, Alex Borg said that a Nationalist Government will build a high-quality centre promoting a lifestyle that improves people’s physical and mental health. This will be an innovative centre that not only treats but also prevents illness, and will also offer rehabilitation services. This network of hospitals across Malta and Gozo will ensure full efficiency in healthcare for all Maltese and Gozitan citizens.

Alex Borg said that a Nationalist Government will introduce a process to eliminate hospital waiting lists for operations so that these are carried out on time and patients are not left waiting for the interventions they need.

A new Nationalist Government will introduce a plan to reduce overcrowding in hospitals, ensure that every locality has mental health services at the heart of its communities, improve salaries and working conditions for healthcare workers who carry the burden of the nation’s health, and implement a single digital system for patients’ medical records together with a digital front door for healthcare services.

Alex Borg also said that a new Nationalist Government will strengthen primary health centres so that they provide urgent care, diagnostics and minor procedures in one place with extended hours, and will introduce coordinated discharge planning and community follow-up.

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista promised that all cancer medicines prescribed by consultants will be provided free of charge to patients. This, Alex Borg said, is a promise that must be implemented immediately. Cancer patients already carry a heavy burden and should not also bear the financial cost of treatment.

Alex Borg said that he will lead a positive campaign that proposes rather than attacks — a campaign that presents a vision, not negativity. The Partit Nazzjonalista is ready to lead the country with ambitious yet concrete proposals aimed at genuinely improving people’s lives.

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that the PN wants to give A Fresh Start to our country — A Fresh Start that the country is yearning for.

That young couple whose son is considering starting a family with his partner but is finding it difficult to buy a home needs A Fresh Start. This is the reality for many parents and young people.

That elderly woman who was recently widowed, whose husband needed an operation but waited so long that he passed away before being called for his appointment, needs A Fresh Start. Waiting lists, Alex Borg said, are a reality weighing heavily on many.

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista appealed for all those who believe we can be better to join the Partit Nazzjonalista and be part of this Fresh Start.

He thanked those who are telling him that, for the first time, they will be voting for the Partit Nazzjonalista. “My doors,” said Alex Borg, “will always be open to everyone, because I am here not for blue or red, but for the Maltese and Gozitan people. This is the politics I believe in.”

“Together we can build a beautiful legacy for our country. I ask you to place your trust in us to lead our country, to transform its legacy, and to once again become a country of excellence.”

Alex Borg said that on 30 May the people will have an important decision to take. “This is the moment when, with your vote, you can give A Fresh Start to the Maltese and Gozitans.”

Alex Borg said that yesterday the Prime Minister announced an early general election a year before the end of this legislature and thought he would catch the Partit Nazzjonalista off guard. However, the Partit Nazzjonalista is prepared and determined to bring about change in our country.

Alex Borg questioned whether Robert Abela called the election because he truly puts the country’s interests first. He recalled how, just days ago, Robert Abela’s Deputy Leader had stated that there would be no early election. If Robert Abela is willing to fool his own Deputy Leader, imagine how willing he is to fool the people, said Alex Borg.

The people have been fooled in many areas — in traffic, in the reality that we are overcrowded, in the difficulty of buying a home, in open spaces and national parks where Labour’s best certificate is the gravel at Ta’ Qali. Maltese workers, who today are among the most stressed,have been fooled and businesses that were promised a reduction in tax from 35% to 25% have been fooled.

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista said that what he is promising today is a contract for all of us to live in a better Malta and Gozo.
